Title: Some thoughts about the Charlotte 25m clinic this past weekend
Post by: Sim on December 17, 2025, 12:29:18 PM
Just wanna write these thoughts down while they're still fresh...

Wow! What a huge event! 19(?) shooters, 5 instructors, one instructor in training!

CRPC was lovely as usual, I'm proud to call it my home range.

The weather was pretty wacky! Cold on Saturday, rainy on Sunday morning, even colder and blustery on Sunday afternoon!

Excellent shooting from just about every student there. Lots of repeat attendees, most of them either honing their skills or challenging themselves with a new setup. The first timers did an impressive job of listening to and applying the great instructions provided.

I was a little sad we ended up skipping the "dangerous old men and women" stories on Sunday, but also completely understand why. It was a miracle we were able to cover as much as we did with that many students in attendance!

I'm very glad I got to meet UpACreek and Tar Heel! Knowing they're in charge of Appleseed here in NC gives me a lot of confidence in the program's future.

We've already discussed this a little on the RFC forum but Dmthomp32 did a great job as a victim model and a new instructor in training! I didn't catch the forum alias for Steve, but his experience was greatly appreciated. NCSUengineer was doing an excellent job providing instruction as usual, and of course thanks to NeilR for being a great shoot boss!

I managed to shoot a 240 and earn my distinguished patch! Scopes really do make it much easier to see your target, who knew! Now I just have to figure out when I can attend a rimfire KD...

Sim,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I was also extremely impressed with the entire experience in Charlotte last weekend. It was my first visit to the Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club, and it is a great facility! Of course the most important aspect of any Appleseed weekend is the people...NeilR set the tone for a meaningful weekend as shoot boss, and along with NCSUengineer and new orange hat dmthomp32 the core Charlotte crew is awesome! They put on a fantastic event, and I'm grateful to have been a part of it.

It is always a balancing act to accommodate shooters from those clearing targets and punching holes in the 5 ring to a few who had not shot a rifle before. It seemed to me that the big crew of shooters all found their level of challenge and growth while staying in high spirits. It made me very proud to see it all come together! Charlotte is holding it down sharing American heritage and expert marksmanship.
