Title: Eagle Creek, OR, November 22/23, 2025 AAR
Post by: Prescott on November 25, 2025, 05:29:40 PM
I always feel right at home when conducting events at DRRC.  This was the range that I shot my rifleman score, so I love returning to the scene of the crime.  We had typical late November shooting conditions at the range, in the form of every kind of water that can fall from the sky.

This weekend a large group of adults and youth from 55th Cascadia Outdoor Service Guides attended the event.  This was a great group as they were very attentive to the instruction and followed the marksmanship instruction.  It is always rewarding to watch the improvement of the students throughout the weekend. The youth participants in the group were especially fun to work with.  They applied the marksmanship techniques they learned and seemed to really enjoy the history.

The remainder of the attendees were a mix of new and return students.  I always enjoy seeing students that have been to a previous AS event and have returned to try and earn their rifleman patch.  As I mentioned at the event, one of the characteristics of a rifleman is persistence.

Congratulation to Wolff for clearing the Hits Counts target on Sunday and to Morgan for earning her rifleman patch!  Reed also requalified as a rifleman this weekend. Huzzah, Huzzah, Huzzah.  There were three youth shooters that did not have strength to safely support their rifles, so they were allowed to shoot from supported prone all weekend.  Myles and Patrick were able to shoot their rifleman score and June did a great job learning her marksmanship skills.

Remember to practice what you learned with dry practice on the comfort of the living room carpet.  Remember to verify that the rifle is unloaded and safe prior to any indoor practice.  Dry practice can help you with perfecting the Six Steps, your Steady Hold Factors and NPOA shifts.   I am looking forward to seeing you all next year to show off these practiced skills.

I would like to thank the instructors for working this event.   AS is making a positive impression on DRRC.   As we will be having more events in 2026, a lot of help will be needed to rebuild a core team in Oregon.

Looking forward to the next events!
Someone else can shoot next to my wife... every shot she took put brass in my face.

Richard,

Yes, hopefully.  I will request a couple days at DRRC and see if they are approved.

The Chehalem Valley range in Dundee has approved AS to have a couple events next year, but I have not yet requested any dates.

I need to start working on my 2026 calendar and get some events booked.

There will be a big event in April, April 18-19, held up in Onalaska WA. I believe, right now that is the only confirmed class happening in the greater Portland/Vancouver area. It's about 90 minutes north of Portland, at The Firearms Academy of Seattle. Great range, and amazing hosts. They teach classes for every level there, and are BIG supporters of Appleseed. It should be up on the Washington page soon! It will fill up quick, so sign up early.

We have a camp in the area, so looking forward to it!
