First and foremost, I would like to thank the Hurlburt Field Rifle and Pistol Club. They are always very supportive of Project Appleseed.
We had five Patriots show up to brave the November heat (80's) and try their hand at the Rimfire KD, and boy, did they show up!!
After introductions, the Battle of Alamance story and safety briefing, we hit the firing line. Our first shot was at the Morgan's shingle set at 125 yards. Chris and Tony managed to hit the shingle cold-bore the very first shot of the weekend.
After we got rolling with the IMC review along with the KD presentation, the shooters were itching to get to the firing line. We spent the day collecting DOPE for each distance and then shooting the position. All shooters definitely got in their steps for the day! At the end of day, we had five out of eight score Rifleman scores. Christine scored her first ever KD Rifleman score of 41. Tony and son Anthony both proved they know what they are about with a score of 46. Jimmy requalified with a 41. Congrats to Kim for shooting a distinguished score of 49.
John with a bolt action had a high score of 36, but with a 100% shot/hit ratio – he was shooting a bolt-action and didn't get all of his shots off, but those he got off were great shots!
Those that did not qualify dry fire, dry fire, dry fire, it is the quickest way to success.
On day two, we got started with the Timothy Murphy story, safety briefing and because all three of our returning shooters had to leave early, we got right to the AQT. On the first AQT of the day, we had two requalification's, and on the second and final AQT of the day, we had two requalification and a distinguished score of 48. Tony got off 48 shots and hit 48 shots. Unfortunately, he had a malfunction on stage three and didn't get 2 shots off. He was headed for a 250, but was super happy with his 48 (100%) target! It was something to behold! Congrats Tony!!!
We had to call it a day at noon, but everyone walked away happy and satisfied with a great weekend of shooting, history and camaraderie.
We hope to see all shooters back again at a future event and hopefully adorn them with a well-earned orange hat.
Happy Thanksgiving to All!
Photos to follow.
Sounds like a great event!
It's a bummer that I had to cancel on this one, but work had other plans. It sounds like it was a great event and I hope to make it out to an event in Florida in the future.
Another great event at the Hurlburt Field Rifle and Pistol Club! Everyone did such a great job! Congrats to Tony and Anthony. These two guys definitely know what they are about! They are such a pleasure. We look forward to seeing them back again. Congrats to Christine for scoring her first ever RFKD Rifleman score - persistence pays off! :snipersmi
