Title: Rome, GA November 9, 2025 - RKD - One Day Event - AAR
Post by: Roswell on November 13, 2025, 07:59:40 PM
12 Patriots joined us for a one day 200-yard Rimfire Known Distance Clinic at the ever gracious Floyd County Wildlife Club. The high peaked in the morning as a cold front was rolling in. BIG TIME! Winds escalated throughout the day with some gusts 25 - 30+MPH according to what the environment was telling us. And extremely variable. The reaction of that on a .22 bullet at known distance made things extremely challenging, but also rewarding as some had not shot at that distance before and most had not experienced shooting in wind like that.

We began things with brief introductions and an overview before getting right to business. First was IMC, then we rolled into another IMC, but this one was Inches, Milliradians, and Clicks. Then we discussed Trajectory and took some time to look at the average .22 come-ups to 200 yards.

Next up Environmental Factors and then the subject that would prove to be on everyone's minds that day... Wind! We ran through some examples of calculating wind adjustments and how to apply them. Then we went over Safety and hit the line!

Our first target of the day was Morgan's Shingle at 125 yards with a cold bore. The wind was already picking up. 3 Shooters though appeared with their dinner orders ready to join Morgan's Company. Huzzah to John, Morris, and Kurt!

We then moved to 50 yards and re-zeroed with some sighter groups. Once everyone was on target, we shot Stage 1 of the AQT. We then moved to 100 yards and re-zeroed, recording our come-ups, then shot Stage 2 of the AQT. Then 150 yards, re-zeroed, recorded and shot Stage 3 of the AQT. Time Monkey was ticking on us so we took lunch.

At lunch we heard about Ephraim Brank and the Battle of New Orleans. We talked wind a little more as it was picking up and we were heading out. Then we cleaned up and hit the line for 200 yards, re-zero, record, and shot stage 4 of the AQT. Our first Rifleman of the day showed himself. Huzzah Drew with a 43!

We began our second AQT working from 200 back to 50. Three more Riflemen appeared, Huzzah to Morris, John, and Zane! We then took a break to hear about Timothy Murphy and pass out some patches.

Our 3rd AQT showed no more Rifleman as the wind was... well the wind was insane. Multiple times yours truly had to go downrange to fix a backer that was blown over or a target that ripped itself off the pushpins. (Not to mention all the stakes I had to fix. – Note to self: get larger backers. LOL) So, we called it a day. At the end of the day, Zane stepped up and asked for an Orange Hat. Justin, asked for a Blue Hat and plans on turning it Orange soon. What a fantastic day!

By the numbers:
•    12 Patriots ready to learn and shoot
•    3 New members of Morgan's Rifle Company
•    4 (200yd) RKD Riflemen
•    2 New Volunteers
•    1 Awesome day!

In Liberty,
Roswell

30 MPH winds?  That's nuts.  Wow - congrats to all that earned their RKD rockers in those conditions!  ^:)^

Congrats to the GA crew (that includes you Wiley) that brought RKD's back to the state!  Thank you Floyd County Wildlife Club
