Title: Orlando, FL, AAR - October 4-5, 2025
Post by: JC/DC on October 06, 2025, 07:42:47 AM
October often brings beautiful weather to Florida. Eight enthusiastic shooters showed up early for a 25m Appleseed at Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club in Orlando. Dennis – TheMenace – gave us a rousing first strike, and our students were immediately engaged with the history of April 19th, 1775, but ready to work on their marksmanship.

We made the most of the beautiful morning weather and quickly moved through our instruction but the clock was ticking . . . the rain was coming. And when it arrived, everybody was getting wet and the ground quickly became muddy, presenting new challenges for mastering the finer points of marksmanship.

On a day where the best of shooters would have had trouble doing well, we achieved some respectable scores from all of our students and headed home to get dry!

Sunday's weather proved to be an improvement, but The Weather Man had told us there was more rain on the way. So we once again set a quick pace to get through our refresher instruction and get to shooting.

The end of the day on Sunday resulted in improved AQT scores and one re-qualifying Rifleman.

Adam impressed us with a high score of 229! Huzzah!

Very respectable scores from Mike (195), Forrest (193), and Bryce (172 twice!).

Special mentions go to our young Americans. Quentin's highest score came when he shot left handed: a 184. Great effort for 8 years old!

Katelyn proved her toughness by improving her scores with each AQT. A high of 119! She'll have some sore elbows for the next week, but they'll be a badge of honor for sticking out a difficult weekend that would have sent many people packing their things and headed to dryer ground!

We had a wonderful group of students at this event, and I'm hoping we see all of them back again soon.

My sincere thanks to my fellow instructors: Dennis, Cody, and Carolyn.

And thank you as always to Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club for their continued support of Project Appleseed.

Some more pics. It was a great weekend. The shooters were dedicated to success. They made it through a soggy Saturday to a mostly clear Sunday. An awesome group!

Using the techniques taught here at my first Appleseed class I shot better than I ever have in my life.

Thank you for being not only great teachers, but great people.

I'm buying the USGI slings for myself and a few others right now, as well as attending another class ASAP with as many as I can convince to go.

PS: Thanks for making us all look cool in the pics  :cool2:

I think this might be one of the most wet shoots I've worked... certainly the most steady rain.

Congrats to all the students- there were huge improvements across the board and it truly seemed like everyone had a great time. Really, that was proven when they showed back up Sunday morning after all that rain, some with still-wet shoes.
