Title: Michigan has a new Orange hat !
Post by: MI-copperhead on September 25, 2025, 08:29:59 PM
Please welcome our newest Orange Hat Jason L., forum name Zorak. Jason was at the most recent rifle clinic at Fenton and posted a personal best of 239. Near the end of the day he chose to step up and grab a bucket to help bail.
Thank you Jason for joining the cadre!

Congrats on that 239! Was that with irons or optics? And HUZZAH for the orange hat! The Appleseed Academy is your new best friend. The videos are really good, and will help you make sense of the info in the book.

Optics. I'm OK with irons, but when I get tired, my eyes start fighting for dominance. I much prefer a scope or dot if I'm going to be on the range for long.

Amigo, that's 1 point away from Distinguished! Very very nice work! **)  **)

Having come so close to distinguished, the only logical thing to do was to start a new learning path that might take time away from shooting, right?

The thing that eats at me, but of which I am also proud, is that on stage 2 of the AQT that scored the 239, I had a failure-to-eject jam. I was able to clear it and regain a rough NPOA in time to shoot a 43 on that stage with nine rounds fired. I had to eject the tenth round to clear the jam. All the points I need for distinguished were in that round, sitting on the gravel next to my mat. I think that in an earlier Appleseed, that failure would have thrown me totally off my game and I'd have been lucky to score points with the following shots. Shooter development isn't just measured by scores!

I tell ya, though, if I'd known the target was going to be a 239, I'd have tried to grab that round from the gravel and just shove it into the chamber. Extractors and even chambers can be replaced, but Distinguished is forever. :)
