Title: AAR Sidney, Ohio September 13-14, 2025
Post by: Doc Willi on September 15, 2025, 08:34:20 PM
We had a great weekend with fairly nice weather. We had seven shooters on the range at the Shelby County Sheriff's Range.
We started with a pre-history and then went into the safety rules.
We had our first Hits Count target with 7 shooters. 3 hit all three in the 100, 2 in the 200, 1 in the 300, 0 in the 400, and 1 in the shingle.
We then learned the steady hold factors, sling use, six steps of firing the shot, and natural point of aim.
Spread out through the day, we hear the three strikes from  Doc Willi and Skald. We worked through the seat/kneeling stance with the transition from standing to seated and magazine changes.
We ended the day with a Hits Counts target with 5 shooters. 5 hit all three in the 100, 0 in the 200, 1 in the 300, 0 in the 400, and 3 in the shingle.
Sunday, we started out with a review of the safety rules, then shot a Hits Count target with 7 shooters. 5 hit all three in the 100, 2 in the 200, 2 in the 300, 0 in the 400, and 3 in the shingle.
We learned the standing position, and then shoot the first AQT for the weekend.
We moved into the carding the sights drill.
During lunch we heard about the dangerous old men and known distance shooting.
After lunch, we continued shooting AQTs. Messer454 requalified with a 210. We broke up the afternoon with the Parker's Revenge fun shoot. The Alarm Listers were pitted against the Minute Men.
We saw great improvement throughout the weekend, and I encourage everyone to keep working on it with dry firing and more Appleseeds. Ben, Eli, and Sofia, you improved greatly over the weekend. Keep up the good work. Jake and Andy, thank you for bringing youth out to Appleseed and setting great examples during the class. A rifleman persists.
We finished with a Hits Count target with 5 shooters. 5 hit all three in the 100, 4 in the 200, 1 in the 300, 1 in the 400, and 2 in the shingle.
I want to thank the Shelby County Sheriff for having us at their range. Thank you to all of the shooters. Every one of you was a pleasure to have there. I also want to thank all of the instructors.
Pictures will be posted soon. If you have any pictures, feel free to post them.

Thank you,
Doc Willi

Andy, thank you for coming and bringing Ben, Eli, and Sophia! Jake, thank you for coming and bringing Wayland! All of you showed remarkable improvement over the weekend. Shooting a rifleman score is not easy but as we say at Appleseed "a rifleman persists!"

It was a pleasure having each of you there and getting to know you a little bit. I hope to see you all again at another shoot!

"The Minutemen" brought youth and exuberance to the competition however the "Alarm Listers" old age and guile carried the day!

I think it was Eli that said the loser had to buy the winners supper?
Andy, how did that go? **)

Skald!

It was a such a great experience.  The kids and I learned so much!

Unfortunately, the kids didn't hold up their end of the bargain when we stopped at Chipotle on the way home!  I guess that's the joys of being a dad!

The kids told a lot of their friends about how much they learned, so hopefully we'll have some new trainees at a future Appleseed!

And because my gun wouldn't shoot straight (hahah), I'm going to to have buy a new one and hopefully make Rifleman next time!

Botkins,
Lol I'm sorry to hear your kids didn't uphold their end of the deal! Lol but that's what fathers do they carry the burden and make it okay. :-)

I'm glad to hear that your crew had a lot of fun it was great having them there and I will hope to see you and your kids and their friends back on the line here shortly! :-)
