Title: Guntersville, AL AAR - August 30-31, 2025
Post by: Google on September 01, 2025, 09:35:07 PM
Mother Nature treated us to an uncharacteristically mild late-August weekend at the Blue and Gray Rifle & Pistol Club in Guntersville, AL.  The club has graciously welcomed Appleseed to their facility at the end of August for the past 15 years, and this was one of the nicest events I recall there. Thank you Blue and Gray for being such a strong partner to Project Appleseed!

Eight shooters joined us Saturday morning to learn rifle marksmanship and the heritage of our country.  As soon as we were on the firing line it was apparent that this group was well prepared.  Their groups started off small and tightened up with coaching of the finer points of the six steps.  We completed all instruction and ended with an AQT followed by a Hits Count target that showed improvement from that morning.

Sunday morning we had a quick review then got through two more AQTs before lunch.  The break was filled with opportunities to award two Rifleman patches.  One went to Harrison, with a score of 234 at his first Appleseed!  Next was Chuck, who had been closing in on his score for a couple of events. Chuck gladly accepted an Orange Hat to help support the mission.  Thanks, Chuck!

We also had a special presentation at lunch from our National Coordinator, Cleveland, to AH1Tom. AH1Tom served as Project Appleseed Historian for many years, preparing stories to be distributed across social media platforms and for our Dangerous Men series in April.  If you follow Appleseed on social media and have read a historical account, it came from AH1Tom. Thank you, Tom, for your selfless service to Project Appleseed!

As if that wasn't enough excitement for the lunch break, Major Tom was awarded his Red Hat. Major Tom's hard work and preparation was on full display this weekend.  Well done!

The afternoon found us executing the 100 yard KD exercise and firing two more AQTs.  At the end of the day we found another Rifleman among us, Robert.  He had been shooting well all weekend and posted a 216 on the final AQT.  Robert is Harrison's dad, so made two new Rifleman at their first Appleseed.  Huzzah!

Thank you to all of the shooters and instructor crew that spent their weekend with us in Guntersville, AL.
