Title: AAR,Kodiak,KISA Range August 17
Post by: Oldmikey on August 19, 2025, 01:07:06 PM
Agent Orange and I had the pleasure of instructing six young Americans in rifle marksmanship and American history last weekend. They were from a 4H group here on the island. Appleseed Shooters, Velma and Bob had arranged with 4H to do the shoot and prepped the shooters,Kodiak Island Sportsmans Association provided the range for free.
Agent Orange flew in from Anchorage the day before and we showed up Sunday morning and met the shooters. All very mature, motivated young people. These people were prepared. rifles were fitted and sighted in. Everyone had a great attitude.
The first red coat showed that these were shooters with some experience ,some with a lot of experience, some with not so much. all these young people were very receptive to the instructions, shooting and history.
The weather was perfect ,sunny and about 70°. If you're unfamiliar with Kodiak and it's Gulf Of Alaska weather this is unusual, T-shirt Weather is rare. Rain and wind is the norm. There was just enough breeze to keep the mosquitoes down, all in all pretty much perfection.
I can hardly think of enough superlatives to describe this group of shooters and helpers. It's great to see such a wonderful group of young people hard at work learning and practicing their craft, our posterity is in good hands.
At the end of the day, everyone had made excellent progress and two shooters qualified. Many thanks to Distinguished Rifleman Velma,Rifleman Bob,Kodiak 4H and Kodiak Island Sportsman Association. Also many thanks to Agent Orange who flew to Kodiak on his own dime and did his typical great job. Excellent shoot.
