Project Appleseed would like to thank the Shelby County Sheriff's Office for the use of their superb pistol range for our first pistol event in Columbiana. The range was in immaculate condition, and the Department even provided target backers for us. Range setup was a snap with the complete firing line and painted firing line.
Instructors THOUGHT it was going to be a good day when the early August weather gave us a break from the heat. Instead of the almost 100-degree temps of the previous week, we had an overcast day with a persistent breeze. We KNEW it was going to be a good day when all the shooters showed up early and we were starting the event at 0815! After introductions and the First Strike, we began instruction before 0900.

We brought pistols to the line after MAJ Tom taught the safety rules. Tennessee Hangfire, one of two volunteers from the Volunteer State, taught the line commands and our second Volunteer, Tennessee Beast, conducted pistol familiarization.

We shot the Hits Count target and learned these shooters were very familiar with their pistols, with almost all hitting the large target, three hitting the small, two hitting Major Pitcairn's button, and JB clearing it.
The instruction went very quickly with these experienced shooters and we managed a PQT before breaking for lunch. JB represented the Department very well by qualifying but was unhappy with his score of 246!

He re-qualified every PQT but never beat the first score.
Tennessee Hangfire overcame his reluctance to speak in public and delivered an excellent Second Strike. Two more to go, TN Hangfire! After a quick review and some excellent questions from Mac on using reflex sights, we were back to shooting. We shot a few PQTs and then returned to the shade after the sun made an appearance for Tennessee Beast to deliver the Third Strike.

The afternoon weather got a little warmer and shooters began to leave, giving instructors the opportunity to re-qualify. MAJ Tom chased his dream of a 250 with rimfire and then switched to centerfire for a second requalification of the day.

Tennessee Hangfire also requalified; the big grin is because it was his first with a centerfire!

And I managed to hit post before I was ready! Apologies for the errors; that wasn't supposed to happen...

The day ended with JB volunteering to reactivate as an IIT! That was a great way to end what was already an excellent day. I look forward to seeing everyone on the line in the future!
It was great having Appleseed back out at the range for a pistol event. Thank you guys for everything you do to push American history, firearms competence, and freedom through the generations! See y'all next time-
JB
This looks like an awesome event! I'm sorry I couldn't make it. Congratulations JB and the re-qualifiers!And welcome back aboard JB!
