Title: Old Fort, NC 25m Rifle Clinic AAR - July 26-27, 2025

What a weekend to be in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina for a two-day rifle marksmanship clinic! The brass was hot, and the air was hotter for twelve dedicated patriots who came out to hone their fundamental skills of expert marksmanship and to learn about our shared American Revolutionary heritage.

This was the inaugural Project Appleseed event at the impressive Virtue of Defense Range in Old Fort, NC. Shooters and instructors came from across the state and across the Tennessee border, some even camping on the premises for the weekend. Many of the shooters had attended Appleseed events in the past, and the entire group showed that they were comfortable with their rifles early on. They handled their equipment confidently and welcomed new instruction with wonderful teachable attitudes. The sense of community and teamwork was in the air!

Some highlights from the event: Shooters got to apply their marksmanship techniques out to 100 yards to see the effects of bullet trajectory on their targets. Aurelian delivered a Second Strike that was described as "stellar" and "The best strike I've ever heard" by several in attendance. A strong contingent of orange hat instructors-in-training Devbo, Devereaux, Bulldog, Bolt, and Libero displayed their preparation by delivering excellent instruction, coaching, and history throughout the weekend. The participants were consistently engaged in the marksmanship instruction and history stories with insightful questions and discussion. Cleared hits count targets? We had four of those. And Wayne and Cole showed that they have what it takes to persist through some difficult conditions to shoot qualifying rifleman scores!

Throughout the weekend, I was reminded that what we do in Project Appleseed isn't easy, and that's exactly why we do it. The founding generation overcame so many obstacles to establish the liberties that we enjoy today. Why should we not contend with a little heat and humidity to shoot our rifles for a few days? Many shooters (myself included) attend three, four, or more Appleseed events in the hunt for their rifleman's patch. But doesn't a rifleman persist?

A big "Huzzah!" to all my fellow patriots who came together to make this event happen. You got off the couch and actively participated in your liberty, and that's the only way we keep it alive!

How'd the dog shoot?  He's indexed a little too much, but those lefties do their own thing and it seems to work for them ;D .  This is at least your second shoot in a row that animals have joined you on the line, Tar Heel.  I think we need to change your forum name to Dr. Doolittle.

That looks like a great range and a great shoot - congrats!

That dog mastered the prone position. It was iffy sitting, and no good standing!

The dog definitely helped some of us on the line focus on getting the respiratory pause just right....
