It was a beautiful sunny and somewhat warm (for us Wisconsinites) 2-day event weekend. Our host range, the Oconomowoc Sportsman's Club did an outstanding job preparing for our first event at OSC, a new range for Appleseed. They were kind enough to spread mulch in the low-lying areas and had just cut the grass the day before our event.
We got an early start and shooters showed up early and helped put the finishing touches on our set-up.
Red Momma Bear bravely waded into the waters of her sBIT2 and started the day out for us with the Introduction. Standard Course of Fire was implemented as we blended into the First Strike. Nice job Mary!
The first Hits Count of the weekend showed we had some work to do but lent a little promise. We had no idea how awesome our shooters were going to be in regard to safety and accepting instruction. Over half of our shooters were first time Seeders.
The day progressed well, and we didn't do much repeat of most practice sessions. Lunchtime came quickly but we had time to hang our first Green Coat before breaking.
Immediately after lunch, we started on sitting and transitions. Nice job Shooters!
The sun was working its' magic so we took an afternoon break as the group was starting to show signs of fatigue. This showed us the effects of environment on our shooting abilities.
Third Strike. Another Green Coat and it was getting late; we called it a day. We shot the final Hits Count, and as was anticipated, it proved marked progress. Huzzah! O0
Sunday morning! Bright eyed and bushy tailed, our fellow Patriots hit the line, raring to go! So, we did review, thank you RMB. Shot our Hits Count! LOOKIN'GOOD! Improvement again! Covered the standing Steady Hold Factors and hung our first AQT! Today we covered quite a few of our DOM's and DOW's during the several breaks we took. AQT's showed great promise, and we did have one Requal. Nice job Eric! Three AQT's later, and as a result for the day, two new Riflemen. Our Requal requalified again! So, one of our new Riflemen, Sam (sorry for getting you and Erik mixed up several times) who was a first time Seeder, shot a 216 and later shot a 215 and as if that wasn't good enough, did it with a bolt action and iron sights. Sam definitely knows what he is about! But wait! Joe, who attended his second Appleseed by bringing a guest (his daughter) qualified with a 210. What an awesome afternoon of remarkable, amazing, tight groups.
I can't stop saying how impressed I and the entire cadre was with this group's adherence to safety! Quite possibly the best we had ever seen! Thank you, Shooters!
As an interesting aside, we had a first time APPLESEEDER who joined us from British Columbia, and she shared with us that in Canada they have a program called Mapleseed. Learned something new again! Thank you, Amber!
The day was wearing on us, sunburn was making its presence known and everyone seemed gleefully exhausted. We split into two teams and competed shooting out the star, glass vs irons. Glass won by a shard despite help from the Shoot Boss and the training rifle. ;D !!
A final Hits Count sealed the deal, as we had four shingles, three clears and our group Effective Range went out to 300 yards, only missing 400 yards for the group by a slim margin!
A grateful shout out to Bruce from Oconomowoc Sportsman's Club for swinging by to see how we were doing on Saturday. Bruce, we have to get you and the rest of the B.O.D.'s on the line!

Thanks for a great weekend, I had an absolute blast! I'd heard a lot of good things about Appleseed events. Well, it absolutely exceeded my expectations.
I'll definitely need to get a 10/22 for my next time though. 3 of the 4 AQT's we shot I wound up with potential points left in the magazine!
