We had a wonderful weekend at the Coshocton Gun Club in Ohio. The club was incredibly welcoming, and we are so thankful for everything the range has done for these shoots.
The weather was hot and muggy, but we dodged most of the rain that was forecasted.
We started out the morning with a pre history, followed by instruction on safety by Griffin.
This was followed with the morning Hits Count target. Sparky117 donated a prize for the first shooter to get a perfect AQT score for the weekend or get for perfect Hits Count targets.
With 22 shooters on the line, we had 17 place all three shots in the 100 yard target, 10 put all three in the 200, 4 in the 300, 4 in the 400, and 3 hitting the shingle. Matt, Mike, and Bruce all cleared the target.
Next, we covered sling use and the steady hold factors for the prone position. we also covered the six steps of firing the shot and Natural Point of Aim.
The shooters worked on getting smaller groups and sighting their rifles.
We had instruction on talking targets, and Inches, Minutes, Clicks.
Sparky117 told the three strikes throughout the day, and did a wonderful job of bringing the events of April 1775 to life.
We worked on the different positions and shooting the first AQT of the weekend. We finished up the day with another AQT and then the evening Hits Count Target. Out of 20 shooters, all got the 100 yard hits, 13 got the 200 yard hits, 9 got the 300 yard hits, 6 got the 400 yard hits, with 3 hitting the shingle. 3 shooters (Bruce, Matt, and Hosannah) cleared the target with Bruce doing it in the seated position!
Sunday started with a review of the safety lessons, steady hold factors and positions,6-steps of firing the shot, and natural point of aim. We then shot our morning Hits Count target. With 21 shooters, 20 got the 100 yard hits, 15 got the 200 yard hits, 10 got the 300 yard hits, 7 got the 400 yard hits, with 10 hitting the shingle! 3 shooters (Mike, Bruce, and Hosannah) cleared the target.
We did carding the sights and ball and dummy drills, then started back into the AQTs.
At lunch, we heard the stories of the Dangerous Old Men/Women. Hail Storm started us off with Hezekiah Wyman told for his wife, Sarah's perspective. Shep related the story of Sam Whitmore. Shadow told the tale of Nancy Morgan Heart. Ember told the story of Prudence Cumming Wright, and we finished of with Sparky117 telling the story of David Lamson with Schottzy acting as Mother Batherick.
In the afternoon, we shot more AQTs, including a rapid fire AQT.
Through the weekend we had 7 shooters get rifleman scores. Hosannah with scores of 211, 212, and 218. Nate with a 210. of course he was baptized with actual water from the North Bridge. Alyssa with a 215. Allison requalified with a 221. Matt requalified with 212, 233, and 232. Mike requalified with 224, 216, 234, and 211. Bruce requalified with 229 and an impressive 245 to get Distinguished.
We finished off the weekend with a Hits Count Target. With 21 shooters, 20 got the 100 yard hits, 15 got the 200 yard hits, 10 got the 300 yard hits, 7 got the 400 yard hits, with 9 hitting the shingle! 4 shooters (Mike, Bruce, Allison and Nate) cleared the target. Bruce, having cleared all four Hits Count targets for the weekend won Sparky117's prize.
I want to thank the Coshocton Gun Club for being such wonderful hosts, and providing shelters and ground cover for the shooters. DblSchott and the club go out of their way to make sure we have good shoots. Thank you.
I also want to thank the fantastic instructors we had. Everyone worked very hard to make this a good shoot and I very much appreciate it. And lastly, I want to thank the shooters. Everyone worked real hard and had great attitudes. I hope to see all of you at Appleseeds in the future.
Photos will be coming.
The weekend was hot but it was a lot of fun! Thanks to all you shooters that came out and made it a worthwhile weekend. :-)
Ember regaling us with a fantastic D.O.M!
Hits Counts
More Pics.
Congratulations Bruce! You shooting the hits count target Saturday evening from the kneeling position was really impressive.
This was a really great shoot, lots of very well mannered and enthusiastic young folks were a joy to work with. (The older folks were pretty awesome too!)
Thank you for a safe and enjoyable shoot with great instructors and attentive students. The history presentation of both the Strikes and the Dangerous Old Men and Women was engaging and entertaining. Having the landscaping tarp to ease brass clean up and all of those pop-up tents to provide some shade and rain protection was a luxury not found at most ranges. Well done guys and gals. Hope to see you again down the road.
