What a great weekend. We had 10 people signed up but somebody dropped out.
We had a really good crowd out that were full of energy and lots of enthusiasm. And with an attitude like that you just know they are going to rock n' roll.
Me and Floyd got out there on Friday to help with range setup. And of course we had ulterior motives - we wanted to do a bit of shooting too. We both shot well even thought it had been more than a minute.
So Saturday started right on time and we got right into it. Things were looking good by lunch time. So we took a break and continued on afterwards. We got in one AQT before end of day. We knocked off a bit early since dang it was hot. Although it was only about 95 or so it was really humid and the sun was beating down hard.
Sunday we decided to start early - at 7:30 am in order to beat the heat. We first did the range estimation class. And then
Morgans Shingle
Wow - we had 4 people join the Morgan's cadre. Good shooting y'all. Not bad - 4 out of 9.
And then on to AQTs. We got about 4 (or was it 5) AQTs done. And again we knocked off early - around 3 or so. By 3 the sun had kicked our rear ends. I was about as red as a lobster after 3 days outside. Everybody was beat.
And nice, really nice, we gave out 5 patches. Rock n' Roll.
Pics coming later.
We actually had 3 of 9 hit Morgan's Shingle, 1 standing and 2 prone. A total of 5 shot Rifleman which was great. Pictures at this link

Nice! Looks like fun!
It was a lot of fun!
Nathaniel and I drove up from San Antonio early on Saturday. As it turned out, a bit too early. Somehow I thought it was going to be slow traffic through road construction in San Antonio and Austin. I guess with the Memorial Day weekend construction was curtailed because we didn't see any. That's ok, better early than late.
Shooters made good progress through the weekend and more than half posted qualifying scores. Rifle choices were all 5.56 caliber: 1 Steyr Aug, 1 Ruger bolt action, and 7 ARs of varying makes and sizes. Some interesting sling and scope choices as well. No one was using iron/open sights.
It was good to reacquaint with Kirby, Floyd and Eric. Hadn't seen you since the IBC in January of 24. I enjoyed working with all of you very much. Eric, I can't thank you enough for the Saturday late afternoon/ early evening hospitality. The dip in the pool and supper was amazing!
Hope to see you all at the December shoot in Waco!
In Liberty,
Gus
