We had a great time in Orlando May 3-4 despite the fickle weather. We started off the day with KawGirl playing The National Anthem on her fife as Theresa encouraged us all to sing along. Who wouldn't have a great time when hanging out with other patriotic people.
Rain was forecast for Saturday but didn't show up. Sunday was a different story. We had a fine start to the day but by the time we were ready for our first AQT the rain came in several waves. We did our best to work around it but everyone and everything was soaked. The afternoon proved more favorable and everything dried out before time to pack up.
There were several junior shooters among us. They were eager students engaging in the history and improving their marksmanship. I love home schooled kids! The experience level of the students coming in was very limited. Several of our students were experiencing their first time shooting. Only three had been to an Appleseed before. While we didn't mint any Riflemen we are sure to see these folks on the line again chasing patches.
Nine year old Lucy had a lot of fun. Her big brother, Wesley, had the high score of the day, even scoring higher than their dad, Duane. Lizzy is going to seek to get her American Heritage Girl group out for a Ladyseed this winter. Her dad Steve came back with her for more after a recent Trail Life event. Steve cleared the Redcoat target Sunday morning. Huzzah! Brothers Timothy and Lucas vow to come back and chase not just a Rifleman score but earn Distinguished patches. Theresa was even more engaged with the history than the shooting. She's going to look into taking a Libertyseed to her DAR group. We didn't see Tony back on Sunday. He learned that shooting wearing contacts with sweat and sunscreen in your eyes is a recipe for disaster. We hope to see him back soon.
We had a great Instructor team with KawGirl over from Clearwater, Trident from Kissimmee, and codyClemonade from Cocoa. I love working with these folks. They know the job and embrace it with enthusiasm.
