Title: Places to shoot in MIddle TN
Post by: TNPatriot on April 11, 2025, 10:55:49 AM
FYI, the TWRA range at Southside has reopened after lead reclamation.  Heading that way this morning.  THye have pistol ranges and steel pits, they have a 25-100 yard rifle range and a 200-400 yard rifles range. Archery ranges and a ton of shotgunning options for skeet and trap.     :snipersmi  :---  :~  :F

Does "Southside" have a different name? I can't find references to it on the TWRA website.

It is the Montgomery county shooting complex.  However, after loading all of my gear and driving over there, they say still closed.  Trying to open by first of May.  They have been closed for 2 1/2 years for lead reclamation but the website is saying thats done and they are OPEN< They are NOT.....guess im shooting on the farm for a few more weeks....

Maybe they updated the website after your wasted trip. There's a banner at the top of the page that says the rifle and pistol ranges are closed for construction. And that the website is under maintenance.
Bummer. I've been waiting to try that location out.

Its a great location.  THe banner has been up for 2 1/2 years and they took down in the last couple of weeks and if you look at the rifle range there is a posting that says"come out and see the upgrades"  IF its there now, they putit back up after i went in there this morning.   :DH:

An EMAIL response from the lead at this range informs me that they are trying to get it back open by Mid june.  As soon as it is OPENED for service again I will make a post so people can go if they want.  its a great range and it would be an awesome place to hold some events.

@TNPatriot Thanks for the update. Hopefully the mid-June re-opening holds. Seems like they have been pushing it back since April when I first reached out to them. Anxious to check it out.

Saw this today on the Montgomery Co. Shooting Complex Facebook page:

>>Rifle and Pistol Ranges Opening SOON!

Date will be posted SOON!<<

It has been a few weeks since I checked their page so I don't know how long this has been posted. Not sure what "soon" means in their language.  ;D  Maybe by the end of the year.  :wb:

Finally! Thanks for the update. That's good news.

Probably a good idea to avoid the opening weekend anyway. Please post a review when you get a chance to get over there.

I've been doing my rifle shooting at the Cheatham WMA range which is closer for me. I would like to see how I fare at longer distances, though, and check out how they are set up for pistols.

Not sure what if anything will change as far as operations go. IVe gone there for years, they were closed for lead reclamation.  IT is a very nice facility.  short rifle has stand from 25 to 100 with benches and individual lanes.  Concreted and covered.  THe 400 is spaced out in 200, 300 and 400 and has a few steels down range as well. There is a static pistol range and 3 tactical bays as well having Archery and various skeet and trap ranges. The club house has a large class room and banquet hall.  IT is a very well laid out place.

@TNPatriot Thanks for the info. I live on the west end of Davidson Co., so that is a lot closer to me than I realized after looking at the map. I will have to get up there and check it out.

The 100 and the Pistol ranges are Open the 400 is not back open yet.  They are recruiting volunteers and need more people.  A few safety changes, is actually more along the line of our style of safety protocol  Great day to shoot tho.  As well, they are interested in hosting some Appleseed events.

worked the kinks out of my AR10, polished the chamber, rebuilt bolt and gave it a one piece gas ring, a wilson combat extractor and a JP enterprises enhanced ejector and ejector spring.  NO more feeding or extraction issues! ^:)^  :---
