It was great to be back in Oregon and I got to spend the weekend with some great NW patriots and a high motivated instructor crew. We had a typical NW spring weekend with Saturday being a very nice day and Sunday being a little wet.
Fifteen students came out on Saturday to either begin their journey as a rifleman or to keep perfecting their rifleman skills. As we tell the student, one of the characteristics of a rifle is persistence. Unfortunately, we did not award the rifleman patch to any students at the event. The students all showed improvement in the their shooting skills, but no one was able to cross the 210 point threshold. Two shooters did score a 206 and a 208, so they were getting very close.
All of the students were very engaged in the marksmanship instruction and the history presentations. While the students were engaged with the instruction, they struggle to implement the instruction at the firing line. Trigger control and NPOA shifts were not being utilized to their fullest extent. These skills will need to be practiced at home.
Dry practice is the skill that a rifle uses to perfect and maintain their marksmanship skills. Remember to practice at home, using the 6 steps to firing the shot, the Steady Hold Factors and Natural Point of Aim. You can make up your own version of the sighter square target on Excel and use it to shift between between targets.
Remember, Project AS is not a 25 meter shooting club. There are some Known Distance event scheduled around the NW. There are two Rimfire KD events in Northern ID and one in Bothell, WA. The only Centerfire KD event in N ID is already sold out. I will make sure to try and get more Centerfire KD events on the calendar in 2026.
