Title: Arkansas Shooting, National Forest
Post by: Will on March 10, 2025, 08:25:00 AM
Wife and I are pretty serious about retiring to Arkansas in the next few years. Part of the attraction is the large amount of Forest Service land to recreate on.

Currently, we will go to New Mexico and 4 wheel into the back country, set up steel at UKD out to 800 yards or more and shoot. Many places to do this. The BLM guys never care-- they are more worried about poachers, off roaders doing stupid stuff etc...as long as you are safe, clean up, they smile and waive....

Can similar be done on FS land in Arkansas? Anyone here actually do it? I know there are lots of ranges, forest service included but I'm looking for long range UKD opportunities with few restrictions as far as scheduling etc...

I'm in the central part of the state and don't spend any time in any of our National Forest. However, in the central, west and northern parts of the state, I think you'd be hard pressed to find 800 yards of open horizontal NFS land. Don't know what the regulations are in regards to off-road vehicles. I know hunting is allowed, though. Several clubs in my area have ranges out to 800 - 1000 yards. But they don't meet your specs re UKD and scheduling. Sorry couldn't be of more help. Hopefully someone else will chime in from another part of the state.

Bought 133 acres near Berryville. There is a highline cut along one side, rangefinder tells me I can get 600 plus!....

In the forest I knew it would be hard to find the big of an opening but figured I could shoot across valleys, hillside to hillside and get some range
 etc...

Thanks for your response!

Nice area! Wilson Combat and Nighthawk are there if you like really nice pistols (and long guns)! Keep in touch and let me know when you make the move here. I'm in Hot Springs, btw. bright1
