Title: Scout scope feedback
Post by: phantomtypist on March 07, 2025, 09:19:40 PM
For those of you that have run scout scope, tell me what you used, the magnification you use and how the day went with it.

Personally I'm going to be running a bolt action with a Burris 2.75x fixed scout scope. I also have the Vortex 2-7x scout scope as an option too (which I'd probably run at either 3x or 4x.

M1A 20 inch barrel. Burris 2-7x32 w/ballistic plex reticle. AMS machine lo pro scout rail. M80 ball zeroed at 200 yards.

We were shooting AQTs on steel so I don't know exactly where the shots landed aside from they were hitting it.  Zeroed at 200 yards at the cross hairs. The ballistic plex reticle hold-ups at 7x power lined up well enough for Appleseed size steel out to 400 yards at Ramseur and the 500 yard targets.

From 2012 to about 2015 my main Appleseed centerfire rifle was a Ruger Scout.  Shot a lot of AQTs, both 25m and KD.

Scope was the Leupold 2.75x, which worked great (still what that rifle is wearing).

For KD, with the duplex reticle, zeroed at 200, shot 300 with a 12 o'clock hold, and adjusted elevation up 4moa for 400 holding center mass.

That scope is not really set up for field adjustments, but left the turret caps at home so as not to lose them in the field, and figured it was good enough for Appleseed.

I tried a Weaver 4x scout scope, and it did not work at all.  Too small field of view for the forward mount configuration.

FWIW, shooting AQTs with a bolt scout is a lot of fun.
