Title: AAR Albuquerque, NM Feb 15-16, 2025 25M event
Post by: Mahamotorworks on March 07, 2025, 08:37:33 PM
A group of 4 Students Gathered at the City of Albuquerque Shooting Park.  The weather forecast was winter condition, and it was mostly correct.  Saturday Morning started out cold but calm and progressed into a sleet/snow filled, windy afternoon.  At the end of Saturday, the wind was a sustained 15 to 20 MPH and Gusts up to 35 MPH.  Sunday's weather was better, a colder start and the wind stayed calm in the morning.  It warmed up in the afternoon with the wind slowly picking up.

After the Introductions, History and Safety Brief we were off to the Shooting Line.  The students learned quickly and applied the Rifleman Knowledge.  Before breaking for Lunch, we were seeing groups that were 8 MOA or better from all the students. We taught them how to adjust their sights and they were quickly learning the shooting positions and magazine changes.  Due to the weather, we ended a little early on Saturday.  Even though the weather got worse the student were in good spirits.

Sunday after the review and some Dangerous Old Men/Dames stories we were back on the shooting line.  The first AQT was posted, and student guided on the process of shooting.  The first AQT resulted in one Rifleman Requalification and the Youth shooter getting a 197.  Since we had a smaller line we slowed the pace down and kept some fun target shooting in play.  The students tried a 60-second Red Coat.

The Cadre also came up with what we are calling "The Perfect Red Coat" shooting game.  Students prepped magazines of 20 rounds, the goal was to start on the 100 Yard silhouette and get 3 hits in the 100 before moving to the 200 yard.  Students could use as many rounds as needed to get the 3 hits but shouldn't move on to the next silhouette until they had 3 hits.  The remaining rounds were then shot at the Morgans Shingle.  A perfect score would result in 8 hits on the Shingle.  The shooter who cleared all 4 silhouettes and had the most hits in the shingle won.  The Cadre also used this opportunity to card the sights, reinforcing the riflemen fundamentals with the students.  The game was not about speed but precision and fundamentals.

At the end of Sunday, a Winterseed patch was earned, and the youth shooter was given a William Diamond Patch. The students enjoyed the weekend and are looking forward to attending another great Project Appleseed Event in the future.

A huge thanks to the Cadre and to the City of Albuquerque Shooting Park for hosting us.
