Morning rain cleared into a cloudy day in Orlando, as we gathered with Trail Life Florida Troop 40 for a 2 day, 25m Appleseed event.
Rousing Strikes were given by Shelly (Pirategirl), Nick (floridanick), and Carolyn (SweetCarolyn). Our Trailmen were engaged with the events of April 19th, 1775, and actively looking for the answers about the "why" of that day in history.
The Saturday afternoon redcoat target saw much improvement from the morning with 4 participants hitting Morgan's shingle.
Sunday morning produced another cloudy day, but our Trailmen were ready to go. The number of hits on Morgan's shingle even jumped to 6!
Refresher instruction was quick, and clearly very effective as we began completing AQTs before lunch. The Orange County Sheriff's Office range is right next door, and they decided to add an additional challenge to our Trailmen by performing helicopter touch-and-go's about 200ft away from our firing line, but the distraction did not deter our determined shooters.
By the end of the day we had some tired kids and dads, but we had some impressive scores for first time Appleseed attendees. Jericho, Marc, Preston, and Cole all showed impressive improvement. Benjamin, Kevin, Ryder, Liam, and Henry turned in Marksman scores. Steve, Duane, and David shot at Sharpshooter level. Honorable mention goes to Wesley with a 194 Sharpshooter score, having never fired a rifle before! Outstanding!
These fine, young Americans should be proud of their efforts in learning history and marksmanship. All the instructors agreed that Florida Troop 40 has set the benchmark for safety and learning for Trailmen at Project Appleseed events. Great job guys!
As always, our gratitude goes to the Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club for the use of their facilities.
