Wow what a great weekend to hang out with Trail Life in Myakka Fl.
Our weekend adventure started on Friday afternoon. We had 48 people signed up and around 4pm they started showing up one by one to set up their weekend camp. By 9pm the campground was full of boys and dads anxious for the next day's event.
The day started early with check in at 8am for both the range and the Appleseed. All checked in let's get those rifles assigned. Over 50 rifles were supplied by Appleseed volunteers from all around Florida. By 9:30 the talking was over, let's do some shooting.
The morning red coat was fun and exciting but now we need to start working on the fundamentals of shooting. Lots of lectures and a bunch of history was the order of the day. I know I made lunch a little late for you guys. Sorry. We were on a roll I did not want to stop shooting. :)
The day ended a little earlier than planned but all the campers were getting tired and they still had to go cook dinner. So we broke early and started early the next day.
Day two and we jumped right into it. We all got to look at an M1 Garand and learned about the CMP. Of course, more history, then off to shooting.
Morning Red coats, squares and then on to the green targets. Before lunch one lucky dad got to shoot a 50 cal. That rifle is loads of fun and what A hole it makes in those backers. It was a fun morning for sure with a bunch of history at lunch.
After lunch it was back to work until we received some bad news. A weather system had been looming, and it was getting too close for the ranges comfort. With lightning in the storm, we had to start closing up the shoot. The range did give us 30 min to let us get a few rounds downrange on the M1 Garand. Many were amazed at how an 80-year-old rifle was that powerful and accurate.
10 Min after we closed up the storm hit, and man did it hit. Luckly camp was already broken down and everybody evacuated to the cars and headed home.
I hope everybody had fun and we look forward to seeing you again at an Appleseed in the future.

That looks like an awesome weekend, with a nice chance to swim after it was all finished. 50 rifles?! I love our FL Appleseeders! Parents, boys, the range, and AS must have worked hard to make this happen and I'm sure it was appreciated. Thanks to all that attended.
How BIG was it? See for yourself on this 2 minute music video. Big Class. Big Bangs

What a great weekend! I'm so fortunate that we got to take a small part in making these kids into better Americans! Huzzah!
I LOVE working with the Trail Life Boys! It is so rewarding to know that we reached some of our future leaders!
The boys were very well-behaved and I enjoyed every minute of working with them!
This was a great weekend. The kids were great and really soaked up the history, well except for the one singing. I love working with these boys, I am counting on them to save our great republic.
Great work instructors.
This was a fun event and I didn't know about the drawing that the adults were signed up for. Thanks to Appleseed
I trust the drawing was a pleasant surprise. :)
