Title: Happy Thanksgiving
Post by: Flintlock54 on November 27, 2024, 07:07:36 PM
The following was written by a continental soldier just after the battle of Saratoga:

"18th the weather still Remains uncomfortable—this is Thanksgiving Day thro the whole Continent of America—but god knows We have very Little to keep it with this being the third Day we have been without flouer or bread—& are Living on a high uncultivated hill, in huts & tents Laying on the Cold Ground, upon the whole I think all we have to be thankful for is that we are alive & not in the Grave with many of our friends

I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you, Flint, for that vivid reminder of the things those early patriots endured to secure Liberty for us.  It helps to put life into perspective sometimes.  The Founders gifted us a nation and a form of government that was designed to ensure Americans need never suffer that way again for our rights and freedoms in our own country.

The purpose of Thanksgiving is to honor those that came before us, to be grateful for the sacrifices of generations of our ancestors, and for the people in our lives who are important to us.

I am grateful for all of you: Patriots who value liberty enough to get off the sidelines and act. Who give of themselves and their precious time for the future of our nation.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Keep your loved ones and your liberty close to you.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Smith
