Pistol Instructor Boot Camp (IBC): The Pistol IBC is a two-day class taught by Charter Pistol Instructors. Graduates of this class may go on to become Appleseed Pistol Instructors.
The Pistol IBC is designed for Red Hats and above. However, volunteers of all hat colors are welcome to attend the event.
Requirements for Pistol Instructors Attendance at a Pistol IBC does not guarantee advancement to Pistol Instructor status. This will be the sole decision of the instructor running the event based on criteria below.
- be at least 18 years old
- attend at least 1 Project Appleseed pistol event as a student prior to the IBC
- shoot a Pistoleer™™™ score on the PQT (see exception #1 below)
- have earned a Red Hat in rifle (see exception #2 below)
- have read the current Appleseed Pistol Manual & Course of Fire and show a thorough understanding of the material
- demonstrate proficiency in teaching the blocks of instruction required for the Appleseed Pistol Clinic
- successfully complete a Pistol IBC led by a Charter Pistol Instructor.
Exceptions:
1. Red Hats may attend the Pistol IBC even if they have not shot a Pistoleer™™™ score prior to the IBC. They will however need to show that can shoot the score within 6 months of the IBC to be eligible for promotion to Pistol Instructor. The score need not be at an Appleseed pistol event but must be properly timed and scored by any current Red Hat.
2. Orange hats are welcome to attend a Pistol IBC. Credit for this event will be good for 9 months. If the Orange hat earns his red hat within the next 9 months and satisfy all other requirements he may be promoted to Pistol Instructor. If more than 9 months elapses, this credit expires.
Border Raiders are ALWAYS welcome!!! Some of the local Instructors usually offer their homes up so ask around. I would, but my wife barely tolerates me. **)

What should you bring? Well, in addition to your personal items for spending an overnight, please bring:
- A teachable attitude.
- any teaching materials you normally bring to an AS Pistol Clinic
- The Pistol instructor manual (Read it before you arrive!)
- Flip chart
- A notebook or pad of paper and pens/pencils
- Blue Guns if you have them
- SIRT Guns if you have one
