This was a fantastic, family friendly event. Thank you to both Tennessee Beast and to ScottInTX who helped cover a lot of the points of instruction, while also taking advantage of the weather to get on the firing line.
After a morning review of the steady hold factors, 6 steps etc., it was then on to the all-important lesson on trajectory. Then on to the range qualification (a bit unique to the range), and verifying that everyone is solid at 100 yards. We spent a good amount of time ensuring that everyone understood their specific trajectory from 100-400 yards, along with the world-famous story of the Battle of Alamance. Tennessee Beast explained wind like the professional he is, although the wind itself was very calm almost the entire weekend.
Sunday morning we were pretty much swimming through some heavy fog - I was ready to break out some goggles and nose plugs. Fortunately the forecast called for a sunny sky so we spent the time covering classroom materials and history. It's amazing what a change in sun can do - when it happened, it took 10 minutes for the weather to clear and for everyone to go from shivering in sweatshirts to burning up in t-shirts - and loving every minute of it. Everyone did great with the ranging exercise and several came very close to the total answer. We had three, yes THREE new people join the ranks of Captain Morgan's Militia and earn the coveted patch. Despite the weather delay we completed a couple of AQTs and had a great time doing so.
Next event is next month (pistol) and next KD is in 2 months before a bit of a winter break. Looking forward to seeing everyone again!
I must say that I didn't think cows trying to cross the range would be a bigger issue than wind. It really was a nice weekend for an event.

Cows are apparently either very brave, or lack a significant amount of self-preservation instinct.
