We had 7 youth and a parent join us for History, heritage and marksmanship at a private residence last weekend. Saturday started off strong with one young lady clearing a hits count target right off the bat first thing in the morning. She received an Ohio patch in exchange for a demonstration of her skill. Congratulations Abigail!
We proceeded into the points of instruction and history as normal. Sparky did all 3 strikes through out the day and brought a variety of props & displays to match. His inclusion of other instructors for minor bit parts really brought the story to life for the shooters!
For many of the participants this weekend, this was their 2nd or 3rd Appleseed and has a result we were able to get into a couple AQT's on Saturday afternoon. Another young lady managed to shoot a 216 and earned a rifleman's patch! Congratulations Becca! (now BlackKnight1300 on the forums). Many other shooters came very close to earning their patch with scores in the 180's & 190's. I expect them to return in the spring after a winter of dry fire practice and earn their patch.
Saturday concluded with high spirits considering the success and progress of the shooters. All returned on Sunday for more history and instruction! The weather did take a minor negative turn on Sunday. While Saturday was sunny & warm, Sunday saw a temp drop that was made worse by some VERY heavy wind. 10 to 15mph sustained with several stronger gusts. However no one was discouraged and attitudes remained determined to continue.
The weekend concluded and all were happy to have been there. I want to thank each of you for coming and I want to say thanks to all my fellow instructors who came out to volunteer. Lastly, I would like to say thanks to the man who allowed to use his property to host an event. I look forward to doing this again next year.
Note, I will get pics added asap.
A great weekend with great kids! Seeing kids such as these absorb the history and engage in improving their marksmanship is something I wish more adults could witness. They are not at all the stereotype we are lead to believe in the media! With kids like these I believe the message of liberty and love of heritage will continue forward! Huzzah!!!!
This weekend was a lot of fun! Instructing a group of shooters that are eager to learn and have a good sense of humor is always a joy.
