Thanks to the LRRC for hosting us, we were able to shoot at 100 yards on Sunday afternoon to drive in the KD class after a great 25M event all weekend.
Saturday – 0830 on a windy Wyoming day, that started clear and sunny, but cool and breezy. We began with intros, general safety & range familiarization, and then began the standard CoF.
9 shooters. Mostly 10/22 most scoped, with a few irons, and one AR15.
7 shooters were under age of 16!
Had a good instructor cadre and Applecore, so started at 0830. Had several newer IITs, so took it by the book and let them teach what they had learned this summer at IBC. Followed standard CoF for most of first morning. All shooters either had been to an event, or borrowed an instructors rifle, so getting hits on paper went quick, and many were in the black on the first square.
M1bzrk stopped by to see how things were going. All three strikes were given on day 1.
One AQT, with a few shooters coming in the upper 100's, but nothing over 200.
Very windy day!
We closed out the day around 1730.
Sunday - cooler and less windy. Unbelievable Wyoming October day to have an Appleseed!
Started at 0800 to give travelers time at end of day.
4 shooters (two families had other commitments), with some instructors rotating through on the line to re-qual.
All were rarin' to go so we got down to it- safety/sling/steady hold factors/dryfire,etc..
Red Coats (Ty cleared his in the AM!), then squares.
Some history review (2A stickers were used as positive reinforcement)
First morning AQT. Ty scored a 209. Did a few drills and a few DOM mixed in. Had all students work on NPOA with a training rifle with green laser, state coordinator tasked them with homework the night before, so they all shared what liberty meant to them (all shooters this day were under 14).
Another few AQTs after lunch! No new riflemen, lots of inprovedment amoung all shooters; several instructors re-qualed. Final RCs.
KD was covered and we also engaged a steel gongs (one 6 MOA and one 18 MOA) at 100 yards with an instructor rifle. Jace went 10/10, with most hits on the smaller target. The group had an above 70% hit count, very encouraging! Youth patches handed out, and Ty received the Appleseed deck of cards, as he was SOOO close, but it wasn't quite in the cards this event...
Rolled out the 'red carpet' (canvas to help with brass cleanup).
Shooters had a great Wyoming weekend at the Range.
KD was taught on Sunday, and we shot at 100 yards!
We had an awesome weekend. The shooters came ready to absorb the history, they asked many questions, and their determination to become rifleman was obvious to all of us.
First of all I want to thank ALL of the Cadre that attended, and the Laramie rifle range that allowed us to use their outstanding facility. We couldn't host the AS events without their unwavering support.
We had an outstanding group of shooters, that were there ready to learn.
Most of the shooters were under the age of 14, and two adults attended. If I remember correctly, we had a total of 11 shooter on Saturday; in Laramie, Wy that is an awesome turnout!
Our Shoot Boss (Regular Guy), and our State Coordinator (Ridge Walker) made this event extremely memorable for all of the shooters that attended. All of the IIT's (Popeye, Happy feet, and B-line1), along with our Dedicated Green hats made this AS a Great Event.
We dealt with 35-50 mph winds on Saturday. Fortunately for us, the Laramie rifle range is used to the wind speeds.
Our target stands were impervious to the wind, and the shooters persevered. Sunday was a great day, with barely any wind. Unfortunately, we lost about 5 shooters due to prior obligations.
Late Saturday morning, the longest serving instructor in Wyoming joined us. Berk (M1berzerk) had surgery the day before, but felt it was too important not to stop by the first AS he had not attended in 14 years, to rally the shooters and tell some history. Your words always inspire all of us Berk!!!!!
In my 15 years since I joined the AS project, this was one of the best events I can remember. I can't wait for the winter seed in February.
Man, that red carpet would've been nice last June lol!! Are we on for another week and a half of Liberty this year?

I saw that canvas and picked it up just for you*! This was the first time using it, and it worked better than expected.
*you being collectively all the appleseeders who venture to Laramie!
I am going to work with the others and see if we can get something on the schedule...
