This was a great event! We SOLD OUT! Then we added more tickets and SOLD OUT AGAIN! Then... we had 2 more students walk-on! This brought the number to 14. Marion Road Gun Club was as always very hospitable. To put the icing on the cake, the weather actually ended up being better than planned.
We began the day with brief Introductions before jumping into the real reason we were there... HISTORY! I kicked things off with the First Strike of the match. Next up was Safety! Finally, we retrieved our pistols, broke into relays, and began pistol terminology followed by pistol familiarization. Many shooters were shown to be both new and have grip strength issues. Extra attention was paid to try to set them up for success for the day. A quick Hits Count target showed there was quite a bit of work to do. BUT Mike knew what he was doing and cleared the target!
Next, the fire hose of Instruction really began. ~~:) We did Eye Dominance, Grip, and Stance and then dry practiced it. The first 3 steps of firing the shot were next, then NPOA, Low Ready/Close Retention/ Presenting; followed by more dry practice. Lastly, we did steps 4-6, all before Lunch.
During Lunch, we heard the Second Strike of the Match from Yankee Davey. I had promised live fire when Lunch was over and after some good dryfire everyone eagerly dove right in. Reloading came next along with target transitions. We did malfunction drills, and discussed trigger recapture, Controlled pairs, and double taps. We practiced all this with some live fire and did a little precision shooting. We spent a good amount of time doing one-handed shooting and finally broke for Upacreek's rendition of the Third Strike of the Match.
Refreshed and replenished it was PQT time! We got 2 in. George re-qualified with a 217 and 226. Mike re-qualified as well with a 237 high score. And... drum-roll! Duane(DEH) qualified as a Pistoleerâ„¢ with a 221!!! ..:..
After presenting patches, I talked about the Onion of Self-Defense and had a benediction featuring the story of Samuel Whittemore.
I hope to see all of you on the trail again soon! A Pistoleerâ„¢ persists!
In Liberty,
Roswell
It was great to see so many people at a pistol clinic, especially women! Roswell did a fantastic job keeping everyone safe with the relays and his instruction. It's amazing how much we learn in just one day. Some shooters weren't sure how to check if their pistols were loaded before the day started. By the end of the day, they were very comfortable handling them. Judging by their targets, they were very comfortable shooting them too. Awesome job and improvement from everyone. I can't wait to see you guys again soon.
