17 shooters from several states descended on the Cherokee Rod and Gun Club in Kingsport this weekend for a terrific shoot. Most of the 17 were repeat Appleseeders - welcome back! We had several families. Our instructors worked wonderfully as a team, with the newest volunteer, Devereux, jumping in head first teaching blocks of instruction. He did great! All of us shared telling the Strikes and DOM/DOW stories. I love hearing different people telling history. The new details shared keep even repeat shooters (and instructors) learning. The rain held off until the very end of the shoot and the range has a great shooting bay with fans to combat the heat. They allowed us use of their air conditioned clubhouse for review Sunday morning until the range opened. Thank you to so many that shared cold water, food, and help throughout the weekend.
We managed to get two AQTs completed before the heat and storm had us calling it quits. 3 Shooters qualified as Riflemen, one with a tube-fed Rifle. He scored an impressive 210. I nearly had to stand on a chair to baptize him with some North Bridge water. His wife had a couple extra points on him. John Sr. was our top scorer with a 221! Nice job! Everyone else had some great scores and groups. Ashley and Sean were brand new rifle shooters and had some awesome groups (I'm talking less than 4 MOA groups before lunch on Sautruday!!!). I was really impressed by how methodical the shooters were. Several took notes. I'm told one was up at 4AM practicing in his living room. A rifleman persists - I know all of them are capable of shooting riflemen scores.
We gained an instructor! John Jr. didn't manage to shoot a rifleman score this shoot, but he had at a previous shoot just a couple months ago. He looked to be a great help with his wife and brother. Welcome 13 - that's his forum name. We hope to work with you at our next shoot at the end of August.
The kids were great. All were veteran Appleseeders and all were so attentive during the shooting and history parts of the weekend, answering questions and helping out.
I hope everyone got home safe. Several had 100's of miles to go back to CO, MD, and across TN. It's awesome that you spent your family time with us.

Devereux was a huge help all weekend (and before - thanks for putting the flyers up!) He jumped into the instruction. Here he's telling us how to shoot the Hits Count Target.

The shooters learn about eye dominance. Surprisingly, only one shooter was cross-dominant.

Special_K demonstrates the seated position as a righty - that's pretty talented for a lefty. Thanks for all the effort.

Abram's dad helped out quite a bit. Thanks. Abram, Macie, and Phedre were missed on Sunday. They all shot great.

Sean claims he's a new rifle shooter. He soaked up all the information like a sponge.

Sam did great. I hope we see her and Macie again soon.

Roy shows me how he adjusts his sights. He made sure the scope was level at home. He added the level to the barrel before moving his scope, ensuring he could level it on the firing line without any guesswork. Thanks for showing me how its done.

"You're the guy!" - John Sr seemed to get a kick out my reaction to his son John Jr's tattoo. You might recognize the design from our special John Parker shirt from last April. I have a tendency to blurt things out (I'm working on it) and was pretty excited to see it. I let him know I recognized it from Agent711's AAR this April. John Jr had no idea the picture got around. Cool.
