June heat was not enough to deter 13 shooters who came out this weekend to the Piqua Fish and Game. Not missing an opportunity to 7th step the local team was able to get out a loaner rifle and turn it into 14, adding an opportunity for father to shoot alongside daughter!
Saturday the high was reported as 93 degrees - but the boots on the ground saw numbers even higher.
We attempted to use canopies to shade the firing line - an initial welcome relief. But winds picked up Saturday afternoon and started blowing them over and they had to be taken down. The shade was appreciated while it lasted.
With several shooters new to Appleseed on the line Shep's custom stock building clinic was a much-needed addition that improved the fit for several on the line.
Sunday morning it wasn't quite as hot, but the tradeoff was persisting through morning rain. Sunday afternoon we were blessed with a breeze that - while refreshing - did not come often enough.
Our hits count targets across the weekend showed continued improvement from Saturday AM through Sunday PM - with 10 of 13 shooters hitting the shingle on Sunday afternoon.
A southpaw showed that her twice weekly practice for 4H paid off - scoring a 217 on Sunday.
Her father was not expecting to be able to shoot this weekend, but a loaner rifle changed that and Sunday he also received a patch scoring a 212. One of our more experienced students persisted and scored in the 230s - also earning a patch.
It was a great weekend to spend with family - as at least four dads were there shooting alongside their kids.
Thanks to Piqua Fish and Game for once again letting us use their range.
Thanks to all the instructors who helped this weekend.
Congrats to Sparky 117 on promotion to RH!
What a great shoot! It was awesome to see father's with their kids this weekend. Despite the heat it was impressive how everyone remained positive and wanting to learn. I particularly liked the father-daughter banter that was going on on my end of the line Sunday! Congrats Sparky Huzzah! Hope to see you all again soon!

This was a scorcher of a weekend but fun as always.
