Title: Canton, GA AAR - June 23, 2024 Instructor Appreciation Day
Post by: upacreek on June 25, 2024, 04:30:41 PM
18 Appleseed family came together for our 3rd Annual Instructor Appreciation Day.  It's a day of camaraderie and a chance to qualify or requalify as riflemen and Pistoleerâ„¢s.  We were fortunate to meet at the Cherokee County Sheriff's AIR CONDITIONED Range.  Thank God for air conditioning and their willingness to let us use their awesome range.  It was a little on the warmer side, reaching a heat index of over 100 with about 1000% humidity. We started the day off with a little new-to-us Georgia's Revolutionary War history.  We had some really neat SAR trifolds from our closest GA visitor's center outlining the major events.  (I'm betting other states have similar resources)

After the safety briefing, we jumped outside.  The morning seemed to fly by.  By lunchtime, we'd shot 3 PQTs, gained 1 new Pistoleerâ„¢, and requalified 3 more.  A handful of other shooters were just a couple shots away from qualifying - next time.  Axeman walked away with the highest score of 229 - nice shooting!

Lunchtime was a delicious potluck.  Thanks to the many, many people that brought all the food.  A highlight of the day was Cleveland presenting Leadslinger66 with his 75 event pin AND announcing that he's been promoted to designated shoot boss!  All of us that have had the good fortune to work shoots with John know that promotion is well earned.  He's a pillar to the Appleseed team.

We discussed interest in making a group trip up to Mass sometime next year to tour Battle Road and other historical places.  We also voted on a GA state patch.  Thanks to everyone for all the interesting submissions.  It was such a tough vote that we had to do it twice.  6Bones patch won out and looks great!  We'll have patches by early August.

After lunch we were able to retire a well-used hat and shoot 2 AQTs. 11 rifleman requalified.  Great shooting everyone!  The top shot for rifle was Simon with a score of 238 using iron sights no less!  We finished the day inside awarding prizes.  The last was for the Top Shot of the day.  Axeman scored a total of 461 between pistol and rifle.  Awesome job!

Many thanks to those signed up to help and all those who jumped in to help set up and clean up.

Rigby shared the Battle of Fort Morris with us at lunch

Cleveland awards Leadslinger his 75 year pin and announces his promotion to dSB.  Thanks for all your hard work and mentorship to anyone who asks!

Carl!  Carl is the Cherokee County Sheriff's Range mascot.  He's only graced us with his presence a few times over the years, preferring to make himself scarce and staying inside the berm.  Axeman received this as his prize for Top Shot of the day.  The Appleseed pouch makes a nice little backpack for him.

6Bones is holding a copy of our new state patch.  All instructors are invited to pick one up when they work our events with us.  Join us!!

What a great event! Like I said, it's like a family reunion, only you're happy to see everyone. **)

Carol did a great job taking this over and brought some great ideas to the table. The potluck for instance is now a staple for Instructor Appreciation Day! Kurt's BBQ was amazing! Thanks so much for doing that. And speaking of Kurt, congratulations sir! I'd like to blame my performance on my new gift of tendonitis and it being 1000 degrees, but that is not to at all downplay the hands-down phenomenal shooting you did under any conditions, especially those conditions though. You too Simon!

And Congratulations Leadslinger66! Well deserved brother!

I love the new patch too, You did a great job 6Bones!

Oh, and for those that asked, here is the Crockpot Mac and Cheese Recipe.

ALL the food was so good! I took home Zinthous chocolate trifle and it is worth the diabetes, LOL.  >:D  I might even let my daughter have some.  :cool2:

Great job Upacreek and GA crew for having a great instructor appreciation day. It was fun to be able to get some much needed trigger time it in, even if it was a tad warm outside.

Huzzah and job well done.

Hop in the van and come see us for the next one! The consensus is that the 4th annual GA Instructor Appreciation Day will be moved to Fall or Winter. Maybe we will go for Winterseed patches next time? Stay tuned!
