8 shooters joined us at Barren River Rog & Gun Club for a weekend of history and marksmanship. Our wonderful hosts waived range fees for our shooters! Many thanks!
After welcoming our group we got right into the history with Eagle Keeper (who told all 3 strikes!). The morning hits count target was not encouraging, but our students listened carefully and put the instruction into practice as the afternoon hits count was a vast improvement (see IAAR). Saturday temps hit 92 with a heat index of 101.
Despite the heat, all but 1 shooter returned and all were eager to get back to the business of marksmanship. Google joined us to surprise DonD on Fathers Day and graciously jumped right in to help with instruction and coaching. We finished the AQT started on Saturday. The KD instruction was well received by the students and reinforced by shooting out to 100 yards. We ran another AQT and scores, transitions and mag changes were improving. Unfortunately, things were getting sloppy and mental errors were evident. The temps were at 95 with a heat index of 105 so the decision was made to stop in the interest of safety and performance.
Several of the shooters expressed that they would sign up for the NOV event and enjoy the cooler temps.
Thanks to all the cadre for making this a productive, successful event despite the heat.
I saw folks taking pictures, so please feel free to add them here.
Very solid event I'm looking forward to November.
It's tough to maintain in temperatures like that! Sounds like a great event though! What a great Father's Day surprise for DonD -- Hope all you fathers out there had a great Father's Day!
