The first of what we hope to become semi-annual Appleseed Pistol Clinics was held Jun 15-16 at the Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club in Orlando, FL. This is a very well-maintained facility. We were located on a range with a cover and a cement firing line which were both appreciated since the sun was intense and rain drenched the range Saturday afternoon. The heat factor was well over 100. That's expected in Florida in June.
Eleven students arrived Saturday to accept the challenge of shooting the Pistol Qualifying Test (PQT). Five bettered the 210 score to earn the Pistoleer™ patch for expert marksmanship. Congratulations to Cody, Gordon, Kevin, Ryan, and Yaman. Ryan shot the highest score for the weekend with a rimfire pistol at 229 (Optic). Gordon turned in the highest score with a center-fire pistol at 224 (Iron sights). Gordon and Yaman both cleared the Hits Count target.
Experience levels ranged from beginner to gunslinger. Everyone's marksmanship improved with the drills and practice strings. By the end of the weekend, everyone felt comfortable shooting a pistol and declared they were confident they could safely and accurately operate their pistol when needed.
This being Father's Day weekend we were happy to see Marcel accompanied on the line by his daughters Maddison and Ashley. What a great way to celebrate the occasion!
