Title: Coshocton, Ohio AAR May 25-26, 2024
Post by: Doc Willi on June 02, 2024, 09:49:01 AM
This weekend was a good weekend. We had the threat of storms coming in both days, but they held off till later, with us only getting a light rain on Saturday. We started the weekend off with safety instructions, a pre-history, and then shot our first Red Coat target. We held off telling the history till later due to the rain that was forecasted. After that we moved onto instruction and drills on eye dominance, sling usage, the shooting positions and steady hold factors. We worked on the six steps of firing the shot with natural point of aim. We shot several squares targets, and the groups were shrinking.
We heard the First Strike of the Match and then Inches, Minutes, Clicks to learn how to bring our groups to the center of the target.
After lunch, we worked on some drills, and the rain moved in. We took advantage of that time by having a talking targets lesson and telling of the Second Strike of the Match.
The rain timed out well for us, and we got back to drills and shooting. We worked through our first AQT, before ending the day with the telling of the Third Strike of the Match, and another Redcoat.

Sunday morning, everyone showed up ready to go. We reviewed the safety and then the positions and the six steps of firing the shot along with Natural Point of aim.
We then shot a Redcoat with some more improvement from Saturday.
The instructors then worked with the shooters on carding the sights drills and ball and dummy drills.
After that, we started shooting AQTs. NavyShooter reconfirmed his rifleman with a 210 and then a 213. DblSchott also reconfirmed his rifleman with a 225.
At lunch we heard stories about dangerous old men. The shooters then got an introduction to known distance.
After lunch, we continued with AQTs and had a fun shoot where the shooter got to try to destroy reactive targets (small oranges suspended on string), then we got back to shooting AQTs.

There were a couple of shooters that were very close (Russell - 189, & Max - 191), and I encourage all of you to practice your skills, and to come out again (Persistence).
We finished with a final Redcoat. There was good improvement in all the targets.

This was a great weekend, and I hope to see everyone at an Appleseed again.
I want to thank Coshocton Gun Club for hosting the event, and thank all of the instruction team for such a great job.

I will post pictures soon. If you have pictures, please feel free to post them.

It was a great weekend. I enjoyed getting to know each and every one of our shooters a little bit! I hope to see each one of you back at the next shoot we have at Coshocton coming up here in a month or two.
