Title: Puryear TN - May 18-19, 2024
Post by: dond on May 28, 2024, 06:46:24 PM
The weather for the weekend was absolutely perfect. Eleven shooters gathered in the clubhouse of the Henry County Gun Club Saturday for the typical introductory and safety material, as well as history. At the range, additional instructions were given, followed by the Hits Count target. Additional instruction was given and the Standard Course of Fire was followed. The shooters were very attentive to these instructions and history.

Only eight shooters returned Sunday. One absence was due to health reasons. Also absent were a grandfather and his grandson. However, the grandfather called me while we were setting up Sunday to tell me that they would not be there because they very tired. However, he expressed high praise for the program and for the instructors. He said they would be back for the next one.

The process was continued Sunday and a good amount of history was also presented.  For the Standing Stage I taught the Improved Loop Sling, as usual. However, a slight change was used in the introduction to it. As a result, this is the very first time that I've seen every shooter employ it. And it showed on their targets.

Harry earned the Rifleman's Patch with a 211. Congratulations Harry. He was also accompanied to the 100 yard range where he experienced longer range and the IMC associated with it.

We were also grateful when one of the shooters accepted an Orange Hat.

We are also grateful to the Henry County Gun Club. They have been very supportive of us for several years. And they have several excellent facilities.

It was great getting to visit and help at this event.  The Henry County Gun Club has a wonderful facility.  Thank you for letting me stay onsite.  Working with the instructor team for this event was a blessing for me.  Dond, Google, and JPL were very welcoming and fun to assist.  The shooters made good progress through the weekend.  It was neat to see them helping each other every time we were down range looking at targets.  Harry's rifleman score was both at his first event and with a borrowed rifle.  Very well done sir.  We closed out the weekend with Coye taking an orange hat to help our cause.  He will be a great addition to the cadre.  I look forward to seeing this group again in the future.

For those folks that did not hit the coveted 210 or better, continue to practice the Steady Hold Factors for our shooting positions.  Shooting while laying on your belly is not how most people do it.  It takes repetition to convince your body it is natural.  Learn what your NPOA feels like and embrace it.  Then, figure out what minor movements you need to make that will put your sights on the target.  Once you get to that point, following the six steps to firing the shot will put the rounds where you intended.

I hope to see everyone again on the line at future events.  As a reminder, you don't have to wait until next year for that to happen.   Project Appleseed has event most weekends.   You just might have to travel a little to get there.  If you do, it will be worth it.  You will end your weekend with a new group of friends as I did at this event.

It was my pleasure to be able to help at this event.  I always learn something when I work with a shoot boss or instructors that I haven't worked with in the past.  This event proved no different and I hope I passed muster.  I made new friends and helped instruct a great group of shooters.  Dond, Google and JPL were fun to work with.  Thank you for letting Geek and I help you.  We are looking forward to helping again.

See you at the firing line!
