Title: AAR- Marriottsville, MD - 200 yard Rimfire KD - May 26 2024
Post by: Catch-10-22 on May 27, 2024, 05:01:25 PM
Great RKD yesterday at Marriottsville. We had an experienced group for a sold out shoot and it was clear that folks knew what they were about.

The day started hot and stayed hot for a Memorial Day weekend - mid-80s to low-90s, very sunny, slightly humid.

We started out at the 50-yard line to establish our initial zero and test scope tracking with a few basic drills (box drill, vertical squares target) then conducted the core instruction back at the covered 200-yard line to give folks a break from the sun and heat.

The group then started the process of confirming zero at 100 and 150 yards before coming back to 200 for lunch and history. Lycos did an excellent job on the "Tale of Two Marksman" special history and then we talked about wind calls. Our students then confirmed zero at 200 yards before we kicked off our first RKD AQT of the day. To save walking, we started at 200 and worked backwards toward the 50 yard line. We then conducted a second AQT from 50 back to 200.

We ended up with 4 shooters earning their Rimfire KD rocker: Matt G, Brad H, Landon C (with the high score for the weekend, just shy of distinguished), and Jim W.

The day wrapped up with a 3x3" "Shingle" reactive target with those same 4 earning their Maryland Immortal 400 patches - Huzzah!

A number of our other shooters came up just short with scores around 35, but alas we could not find those extra hits on the target despite multiple counts from instructors. We hope you come out next time when the weather is a little cooler - I am sure you will improve with additional practice.

Volunteer Off_Paper deployed a target camera system he has been developing with off-the-shelf hardware and a lot of ingenuity and shooters loved the instant feedback (they were able to look at their targets on their phone through a web link). We still used a couple of spotting scopes but with another 2 RKDs scheduled, we are excited to have a great time and energy saving system. Thanks to all of our volunteers for making the event a success!!!

Many thanks to our host range (AGC in Marriottsville) and host club (Arlington). Access to a 200 yard range in Maryland is pretty tough and the range was ideal for the event.
