Title: Laramie, WY AAR 20-21- April 2024
Post by: Ridge Walker on April 23, 2024, 09:15:03 PM
Saturday morning 20 April 2024 at the Laramie Rifle Range: good start for a Patriots
Day Winterseed!  :))

It warmed up enough to stifle that possibility, but was cold all day. Only two students ,
brought by former Appleseeder B-Line – 14 year old Daniel and his dad Andy, equipped
with Tech Sighted 10/22s. That warmed the cockles of this old geezer's heart!
After introductions, safety rules, etc., they fired the first Red Coat. Neither put 3 rounds
into any 'bell'. Room for improvement obviously, but they already knew their rifles,
slings and safety, a great advantage – Thank you, Brian.  ..:..

We proceeded with Instruction including live fire and plenty of dry fire. We broke for
lunch in the Clubhouse and heard the first two strikes. Brian furnished Paula's world
famous bean soup and corn muffins. Thank you Paula. Jacob gave an outstanding intro
and First Strike with visual aids, and we all were greatly impressed. The afternoon
proceeded with more instruction, and plenty of live and dry-fire upon green coat targets
and the shooters were doing amazingly well, but getting pretty tired and we ended the
day with the afternoon Red Coat which resulted in a 200, a 400 and 2 shingles. What an
improvement in 8 hours!  ^:)^

Sunday began with sunshine and relatively warm breezes and we proceeded in normal
fashion and Red coats, showing improvement from the previous day. We added a brief
biography of Daniel Morgan and a chance to handle a Brown Bess and bayonet. The
students were joined by instructors who impressed them with a cleaned RC, also with
iron sights. Ridge Walker did yeoman service running the line so that other Instructors
could shoot. The first AQT took place at 0945 and the last at 1625.
We also did a Memorial Volley to remember our fallen Heroes and a "steel challenge"
just for fun.  :1luvu

Daniel ended with a score of 203 after switching to a scoped rifle; his dad shot a 190 –
still with irons. Very impressive for a first Appleseed. They both vowed to return to
shoot again and to hear more history. Thank you, gents, for your enthusiasm and
perseverance. Thank you Cadre, you were Awesome. Thank you Laramie Rifle Range
for once again hosting Project Appleseed. A great range and if you live nearby, you
should check on becoming a member.  :snipersmi

Forgot to mention that Brian and Jacob both shot over 230 - with iron sights - and earned Distinguished patches! Congrats to both of you.
