Title: Colonial Era Beer and a Stock Ale Recipe
Post by: CarrollMS on April 06, 2024, 03:18:07 PM
Buckman Tavern would likely serve up one of the refreshments on this page (I love the Rev War Soldier with the Mug this fellow features on his page). He includes a recipe from General Washington. All in the family consumed beer.

A brief history of colonial-era beer (including an awesome Stock Ale recipe) (craftbrewingbusiness.com) (https://www.craftbrewingbusiness.com/featured/colonial-spirits-brief-history-colonial-era-beer-including-sweet-stock-ale-recipe/)

This has inspired me to pick up a Porter if I can find it, which is like what was consumed by our Rev War Veteran Ancestors

"A Baltic porter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_porter) with a very dark cola (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cola) color, appearing almost black in the glass with a pale tan head, and a strong malt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malt) flavor. Porter originated in England in the early 1700s and became popular in Colonial America, with production concentrated in Pennsylvania."
