Title: Canton, Ga March 2, 2024 One Day Rifle
Post by: Gator0246 on March 03, 2024, 05:30:48 PM
It was a great day on the range with new shooters and fellow Instructors! As always, thank you to our host, Sheriff Frank Reynolds, and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department. Also, a huge shout out to the instructors that made this day great. The day started soggy, but better weather was in the forecast. We soon had 10 shooters arrive ready to learn about heritage and marksmanship. We began the day with introductions and got right to the most important topic of the day, History. Roswell presented the first strike, and we dove right into safety. Bug_7 taught us the safety rules and how to make our rifles safe. With safety covered we headed to the range and brought out the rifles. Upacreek covered line commands and ammo difficulties. We finally turned the shooters loose and shot the hits count target. After scoring the targets we began the instruction. Eye dominance, sling use, 6 Steps, NPOA, Dry fire, and the prone position were taught and practiced. With rifles fitted we shot our first square of the day and WOW did these shooters soak in the instruction. With a little coaching and a second square shot we taught Talking targets. With the targets looking good we went ahead and introduced a mag change drill and the stopwatch and that got us to the most important block of the day LUNCH ;D . 6Bones gave a great Second strike and .416_Rigby taught IMC. After cleaning up instructors worked with the students to make sight adjustments. With a couple more squares shot, and everyone sighted in we hung an AQT and took a break to here upacreek tell the Third strike of the match. With the shooters hydrated and rested we taught transition to prone and shot the 3rd stage of the AQT. Upacreek taught sitting and transition to sitting. We gave the shooters time to try out a few positions and practice the transition. We then shot the 2nd stage. Roswell taught standing and we shot the 1st stage. We finished up with stage 4 and hung a new AQT. After a break we started at the bottom and worked our way up. Hits count targets were hung and we took a break for a benediction and target scoring. It was my pleasure to give Thomas and Jacob William Dimond patches. With targets scored we went out and shot the hits count target. With assistance from all the shooters we cleaned up the range in no time flat. With smiles all around we had a great day at the range with great students and great Instructors. I look forward to seeing you all on the line again soon.

This was an awesome event. Gator did a great job shepherding us through the day. So many new faces and such improvement! Keep at it, everyone. Remember perfect practice makes perfect and a Rifleman persists! I look forward to seeing you all on the trail soon. We have an event in April coming up. <Hint. Hint.>  ;)
