Title: AAR: Osage Beach, MO April 18-19, 2009
Post by: ErikAnderson on April 19, 2009, 11:39:56 PM
The spirits of Patriots past proved the weatherman who predicted a 90% chance of rain for the majority of Saturday, wrong.  Other than a brief shower during the arrival of the shooters, the 10% of sunshine, or at least only partly cloudy, won out.

The official count for Saturday stood at 51 IIRC.  We ran through several squares, a couple redcoats, and broke for lunch. 1st strike during lunch, then back out for some greencoats.  At 3PM CST we commenced with the special COF with a volley following each name as we shot the redcoat.  We even squeezed in a couple AQTs on Saturday and made two Rifleman, one of which wears an orange hat!  Lots of positive feedback on what they'd learned and the vast majority of the shooters improved markedly.

Sunday, a few shooters started the trek home early based on the weather, figuring we couldn't get lucky two days in a row.  They were half right. To our surprise the shooters ASKED to shoot squares first. The instructor corp hadn't heard anything like that in...well....ever!. Only after the squares and some ball and dummy work did we post the first AQT of the day.  Well about half way through, after some spurts and starts, the heavens opened up with a downpour.  We now know what Noah must have felt like!   Even under duress emerged a RifleWoman shooting a 224. This particular woman has a special place in my heart as she's my bride, KoriAnderson.

We broke for lunch to wait out the rain and were a bit shocked to find four shooters with gear still on the line ready to shoot.  We finished out the day on an AQT in another downpour with two just out of reach of a patch.   All in all another successful Appleseed. I have a feeling we'll be seeing some of those faces again!

You forgot to add that I, too, donned the treasured orange hat!  Watch out, boys, one day soon, there might just be a little lady calling the line! :~

Congrats Kori!

It will be a pleasure to have a lady on the line.  It will definitely add some class to the Missouri Instructor contingent.  Welcome aboard, and grab your bucket!

Congratulations! KoriAnderson welcome to the bucket brigade. I hope to be able to make a shoot in MO this year as I used to love that area when I was at ft. Lost in the Woods.

:D

PM Nickle and Longshot with your request to be put into the rotation and have your title changed to IIT. :)  It'll be all Appleseed all the time in the Anderson Household.  Our daughter is already wanting to come with us.....what's the minimum age for an instructor?  >:D

At the moment I think the youngest instructor is .5 (I think she is 12).  Your daughter would definitely be setting a new record.  Good goal to shoot for though...  O0

Hey Hi Hello,

Just wanted to check in and say Thank You to all the organizers and instructors. This was a first rate, top notch volunteer effort!

Since this was my first Appleseed experience, it was a steep learning curve for preparations; much better idea of how to prepare for the next shoot. The event/shooting sequence was all new and a few of the targeting instructions for the number of rounds per target and the mag loading & changing instructions were difficult to follow for a 'newbie'. Next time, I'll be a bit more on top of that curve. The timed shooting and position changes WERE the biggest challenge. I see Ti Chi or Yoga in my immediate future!

The only real problem was hearing range commands...but ear plugs and muffs were most of the cause.

Camping at the range was a huge success. Made several new friends and look forward to spending some more time among them.

Really excited about returning for another shoot at the site. Great opportunity for sorting out camping gear and shooting gear. Looking forward to wearing my Rifleman's patch...

I'm sure that Armada will post the pics soon and you'll get to see it- it would have been nice to get a handshake after receiving the patch, but I'll settle for a hug next time I see ya!

Attended my second AS and truly appreciate the work put forth by all, including the participants.  Always enjoy learning history and the orators made it come alive.  It brings a new appreciation when it comes from the mouth of a person rather than the pages of a book.

Did not bring cadets with me this time as they were at an FTX at Fort Leonard Wood.  I did, however, bring a co-worker with me and he found he was a bit rusty on his skills.  Same thing for me, I need to work more!  I did manage to pull off a 220 on the first AQT Saturday and earn my patch, but I definitely need to bone up on the skills.  Declined the Orange hat as I have too many irons in the fire to make the committment to attend 4 AS's per year.  Don't want to committ to something and not be able to follow through.  One day, though.....

Thanks to Thor for the land and the DAR, Longshot for the green hat work, Ben for his enthusiastic  ;) enforement of safety, Kevin, SMLE, Armada (sp?) and the tall one (sorry, don't recall your name-my apologies) for the Orange hat work.  Thanks to the cooks as well; the brats were fantastic on a rainy day!  If I forgot anyone, my aplogies, it's the CRS.....

Maybe next time we can get some long range work done.  25m is fun, but 400 is more fun!

Redleg,

Good to hear you made it out again.

Get on out in October to the Rifleman Bootcamp and get to 500 yards durring the week.  Or drop in for a few days.  We'll get you there.

The tall one is actually Short John.  Long John is taller, and in Illinois(ucks).  LOL!

Hope to see you this fall.

Guy

Yes and one of those shooters (my sister) was shooting in the high 100s with a rear sight that was about to fall off! I guess her and I need to talk about checking equipment or maybe I need to maintain it better  ++). Needless to say she was not happy (nor was I) when I discovered the problem.

Ben for his enthusiastic  ;) enforement of safety
That may well be the nicest way anyone has described it.  &) :)

As usually a great time with great folks. Thanks to all that attended and made it possible.

Clown bat time for Ben. &)

I could sense her frustration on Sunday. Her positions were good, and she took her time.  Glad to hear it was Mechanical. When's the next one she can make? :) She'll get her patch yet. O0

I am a newbie and I am an old fart (64) and my young (55) wife shot a 185 on the AQT to my 121, shame shame! The instruction was awesome and and everyone was great. We will be at the next AS in June in Osage Beach and this time I will (hopefully) shoot better than my wife. Either way, we won't stop until both of us have earned a rifleman patch.
This is the best thing to happen to this country in a long time. I know I can get some guys from work to come to the next one by telling them that my wife can out shoot them. They will have to show up to prove different!
Thanks so much to all the people that made it special, Long Shot, Thor, Kory, Short John, and the other old **** that I can't remember his name.
By the way, the food was great also. Make sure we have brats next time.

Longshot,
When you reply to the thread, click on the additional options, click the "Browse" to go to where you have the pictures saved, and just attach them to your message. I know Armada was taking lots of pictures so it would be fun to see them. Remember that you can only attach 2MB per post so that will be 2 to 4 pictures depending on what the resolution was.
Write back if you have any problem.
Your IT guy.

Longshot,
You said that Numrich had the slings we need for our Ruger 10/22s. What is the item number? Do I need to order the sling and the swivels and the clips separately? Thanks for any help you can give me.
My earlier post forgot to include Erik and Ben in my thanks, Ben is a DI kinda guy (Bad Cop) and Erik is a real personable (Good Cop) kinda guy but all of you were great. Who was the guy in the orange hat with the beard and the and the little cigars? I can't believe I forgot his name.
And never mind on the slings, Appleseed store has them again so I just ordered 2. Thanks!

Your IT guy?
