Hey Guys,
I was perusing the swatmag article from last year and noticed these guys with their slings. Does anyone know what kind they are? They sure look functional and convenient with the buckle.
Thanks
J
It is an M1A sling or it can be called a GI sling, you can get it off of Midwayusa. Every AS I have gone to there was always an instructor who had one that someone could buy or borrow for the weekend.
It is indeed but its a somewhat souped up version with a quick release plastic contraption which leaves the loop on your arm and the dangle bit on the rifle, you can see it just above the elbow. I've seen one or two of them at a shoot but haven't come across one online.
Sorry, don't know the name, manf, or model. Too fandangled modern for me, hey I'm still trying to get people to go 1907!
Cheers
Phil
That is NOT a USGI web sling, for sure.
Probably something somebody made up from nylon strapping and quick release buckles.
Pretty slick, and locks on the arm like a 1907 sling. Some of us actually like 1907 slings.
I've seen a couple at a recent AS; I think they're sold as military cuff slings or quick-cuff slings. Actually a pretty neat idea: stability of a loop sling if you need it while leaving the rifle set up in a 'hasty' sling configuration. Best of both worlds.
Trisha,
I think the one he is referring to is the one in the foreground. It looks like it is an aftermarket, maybe a Blackhawk or Spec Ops. The buckle looks to be a Fastex buckle like on web gear.

whoops, my bad. I was looking at the middle one and I thought it looked like a Gi sling but I guess I didn't look at it close enough.
A Quick Cuff Sling.
Here is one style: http://www.tacticalintervention.com/quickcuffslingmodelone.html
http://www.snipersparadise.com/newproducts/quickcuff.htm Here is another discussion.
A "Poor Man's" version of this is often seen at Appleseeds.
It is a standard USGI web sling with either a quick disconnect sling swivel on the forward attach point or another "spring clip" loop, same as the rear/bottom of the USGI sling, so that you 'spring clip' it to both top and bottom swivels on the rifle.
This allows you to leave the loop on your upper arm, detatch it from the rifle.
The bonus is that you are "set" as far as placing your arm through the sling. There is not alot of time saved, however, as you still have to attach it to the forward grip of the rifle. It also eliminates the "practice" of using the USGI web sling as it was originally intended, thus making it more difficult for you to teach this method.
Once a person learns how to get into a proper loop sling, with the USGI Web sling, it goes on rather quickly.....and for $8 vs. $50....that extra couple of seconds time saving is not worth it, IMHO.
Thanks guys,
They sure do look snazzy. If the guilty in the picture ever run across this thread...give me a holler!

wow.....this makes me feel old....... :-[
guys (& gals) check the inside pix of the SWAT article.....the one that has the picture of the "shadowy Rev War Rifleman looking on in approval" on the cover......
This pix is from a shoot in Boulder, NV, & the fellow who has his back to the camera is none other than KoolAid......eyeball the shoulder patches & see if they look familiar.......
my, my, my, my........

The last AS I went to, a man litearlly tied one end of a rope around the forend of his stock and fashioned a loop around the other for his arm to fit in. Worked great!
It's the "software" that's important, not the hardware.
That said, it is pretty neat! Just be sure you're upgrading your gear only after you've upgraded your skills. Too many folks want to "buy" their marksmanship skills and end up short-changed!
I made one like that one in the pic a little over a year ago after attending an appleseed and knew there had to be a better way to unsling from a mauser! What I came up with after a visit to the local hardware was a cheap plastic buckle assembly for $1.50 and hooked it on a short piece of nylon sling material to the front sling mount then run the standard sling through the male part of the buckle. It works about as good as having the metal quick connect on each end of the sling.
