Saturday morning started off very pleasant weather-wise for our event. But we knew that would not last. Starting around noon and through end of day Sunday, temperatures and humidity would conspire to deliver a "feels like" temperature of 100 degrees at its peak. Nevertheless, our hearty group of shooters persevered and demonstrated terrific improvement in their marksmanship as they also learned important lessons about their American heritage.
Congratulations to Tyler and Greg for earning their Rifleman Patch! Nice work gentleman. Tyler earned his on the second AQT of Sunday, I believe. Greg decided to wait until the last AQT of Sunday to earn his. It seems he benefited from baking in the sun a little while longer.
Congrats to our other Greg at the event (Red Hat Greg) for re-qualifying. And congrats to one of our newest Orange Hats, Sadie for clearing a redcoat target at the end of Sunday.
This was a delightful group of shooters to work with, as well as my crew of instructors. Thank you everyone!
Thanks for running another great event, Ames. The heat was a bit much.
As a volunteer, it was fun attending as a shooter. I thought the other shooters were great.
Little JT was a hoot. No indication of any sort of meltdown. He just kept plugging away. Shooting a rifle almost as long as he is tall, and doing it pretty well.
It was good to see all of the other volunteers again. Happy to see Brian come into the fold.
All in all, 'twas a good weekend.
It sounds like this was a great event in spite of the heat. Hope to come out to another Iowa event soon!
