What an awesome, great, wonderful, awesome weekend with 13 patriots at the Northwestern Gun Club in Duluth MN. We were blessed with great weather for an end of July event, a beautiful and receptive new Host Range for Project Appleseed in Minnesota, instructors who brought their "A" game, and an group of participants that exemplified teachable attitudes.
All of the participants were first time Appleseeders, including a group of Trail Life boys and their fathers!
The participants first hits count showed only one person effective at 300 yards or longer and through persistence and great attitudes that embraced trying something new and learning new ways, we saw our first clear of the hits count target on Saturday afternoon - Way to Go Brandon!
The teachable attitudes and awesome improvements continued on Sunday with the second person clearing the hits count on Sunday morning - again congratulations to Chris. And last, but not least Adrian cleared the hits count on Sunday afternoon.
By Sunday afternoon this group had 7 members who could show 300 yard plus effective range on the Hits Count target.
Lest anyone think it was only Hits count targets they could hit, we minted four new riflemen on their first Appleseed event. Shooting above 210 on Sunday were:
- Brandon - 228
- Chris - 228
- Adrian with a 214 and followed up with a 234 the high score of the weekend.
- Tyler with a 227 personal best score
- Tim requalified with a 211
In addition to this we had a few more knocking on that door with scores in the high 180s, 190s, and 200s.
Congratulations to all of the participants. I know I had a great event and would love to see each of you future events.
Instructors - thank you for being the awesome team you are.
Northwestern Gun Club - Thank you for the range and camping facility use plus the great support you gave our first event there. I look forward to seeing many more events run in cooperation with the members of Northwestern Gun Club.
PS: Pictures will come later this week.
Great job everyone! O0
Hi, I'm Adrian (mentioned in OP) - just joined the forums. Totally agree: this was an amazing experience. Life-changing, I would say! It was an honor to get such incredibly high-quality instruction from you patriots, so much of it one-on-one. My son Hans didn't quite get Rifleman because of equipment issues, but he was totally shooting at that level by the end. He loved it!
Also loved the history about amazing figures in the Revolutionary War.
One question, concerning Alvin C. York. In the famous black-and-white movie, while he's impressing his Army shooting instructor with his prowess, he has a line something like, "Where I come from, I've never met anyone who didn't know how to shoot a rifle." Would it be fair to say that the shooting heritage in Alvin York's neck-of-the-woods was directly inherited from early America's marksmanship culture?

Great Job everybody. Thanks to the Northwestern Gun Club for hosting, the Trail Life guys, and others for participating, and the Appleseed volunteers for all their work.
