Despite several days of rain, flooding, and other natural calamities, this past weekend's Rimfire Known Distance event at RWVA Range was an absolute blast! Great students and more agreeable weather made for a great learning event!
After morning Known Distance academics, students spent the morning gathering data on their rifles, taking into account their equipment, their ammo, and the environment. After collecting data (as well as some confidence in their rifles), students had the chance to put their marksmanship fundamentals and newfound data and apply them during the Appleseed Qualification Test!
On Day 2, the morning found the students ready for more academics, history, and a target range estimation exercise. For this exercise, students used their rifle optics to determine target size in either milliradians or Minutes of Angle, and roughly calculated the range to their target. First shots for Day 2 opened with the Cold Bore Challenge, where several earned their Daniel Morgan patch for hitting the target "shingle"!
Congratulations to David, Steve, and Drew for earning their Rimfire Known Distance Tab, and well done to Sara, Dave, Drew, Steve and Glenn for earning the Daniel Morgan patch!
This was a wonderful event filled with lots of learning, humor, and great attitudes!
Finally, many thanks to Torin, R-Mack, and Dchelwig for making this event possible. Honorable mention to IIT sarea_51 who, although a student travelling all the way from FL, saw fit to help coach other students as she saw the need.
Well done to all, and thanks to everybody that came - look forward to seeing you on the Appleseed trail again soon!
