My father taught me this back when I used to shoot Bench Rest.
So, what exactly does this mean, and why is it pertinent here?
It applies, because, the BASICS apply in EVERY shooting discipline. And consistentency is as BASIC as it gets.
Now, as to meaning. When you're shooting, especially group shooting, if you do the SAME thing every shot, and follow all of the steps, your groups will be nice and small. If you do this consistently over time, you can adjust the point of impact (POI) to the bull (a zero).
Fail to do the same thing every time, and you're guaranteed to shoot to a different POI. This can cause big groups, or a zero change from the last time you shot.
So, this can be a simple reminder to make sure you are consistent on ALL of those little items we seem to lack the time to discuss much, like stock weld and spot weld.
When you're getting to that stagnation point, trying to reach the Rifleman level, but just can't quite get there, remember this thread, and remind yourself, The NAME of the GAME is the SAME.

I agree 100 percent.
Everyone who shoots well does the same things and they do them consistantly every time they fire a shot. Advanced marksmanship is just working harder at the fundamentals of basic marksmanship. There are no secrets to shooting, only levels of concentration.

That everyone is capable of shooting a perfact shot, is learned. Doing it time after time is the mind game involed that makes it the sport that it is. ;) ;D ;) :o
