Title: Pioneer Sportsmen (Dunbarton NH) 27-28 May 2022
Post by: MattNH on May 28, 2023, 08:46:40 PM
Wow, what an event.  We had the heat with very little humidity and the mission involved, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.  We had 10 students on the line Saturday with 4 being unable to return on Sunday.  The six that did make it back Sunday went through some AQTs and drills, and we minted two new rifleman.  Congratulations to Brent, whose last event was 10 years ago, on his persistance to the Rifleman patch with a 218.  Also congratulations to Jon who with some different ammo, scored a series of impressive 215, 221, 223, 227 and finally 241 in his first Appleseed to earn the Distinguished tab as well as his patch.  That was a fantastic improvement each step of the way. RangeDog re-qualified 244, 248, 236, 240, 243 and 246.  Nightpoison re-qualified with 229, 233, 228, 222, and 238.  Yours truly re-qualified with a 217, 212, and 222.

Rick put together some impressive standing stages. Milo is knocking on the door and scored a 98 on stage 4.  Dan showed his ability on our 100 meter shoot by putting together a 4-5 MOA group at 25m and then a sub 4 MOA group shooting at 100 yards.  When Ethan added up his best score of each stage, he totaled a 210, persistance will bring that together in one AQT.  Additionally, he was one round out at at the 300 yard silhouette on our Sunday PM Hits Count target, otherwise 12 hits including Morgan's Shingle.  Ed, a returning Rifleman in his first shoot last October had some great groups on the Saturday drills, I know he'll be back again.  Ben, was making progress, but the cancelling sitter strikes again, both he and Katrina are welcome back.  Catherine and Dom suffered the safe fate with a cancelled sitter, I know you'll be back again.

Thanks to RangeDog, Nightpoison and Luigi for and excellent event with flawless execution on the instruction and the dedication with the one on one instruction.  Thanks to Pioneer Sportsmen for hosting again and see you back in October for our 3rd shoot of the year in Dunbarton.

Awesome weekend and Happy Memorial Day - MattNH

One more thing I'd like to note about Jon, the first-timer who shot Distinguished, is that he did so with his rimfire AR15 - notable components include a CMMG operating system, the usual BoreBuddy reliability enhancements, a heavy-looking dedicated barrel (whose manufacturer I deeply regret not inquiring-about), an M16-style fixed stock, and no aftermarket LRBHO parts (let alone magazines with compatible followers).

This gentleman absolutely positively did not allow "it ain't a traditional-stock rifle with a flush magazine and a competition trigger" to get in his way.

I hope that he chooses to return, accept an orange hat, and teach the rest of us how and why today's popular commercial rack-grade rifles (in .22, .308 and everything in between) are no excuse to not follow in his footsteps.
