Title: Understanding and Dealing with Parallax and Scope Shadow
Post by: AF5US on May 23, 2023, 12:38:17 PM
I came across this four minute video and thought it was an excellent way to quickly explain scope parallax and how to adjust for it.  The video also covers scope shadow and how it might be proactively used.  The official Project Appleseed way is to eliminate scope shadow, but it's a good trick to keep in the back pocket when needed.

A quick search didn't turn up any previous references to this video, but apologies if I've duplicated.

Wow! This explains a lot for me. I was having a heck of a time getting my cheek weld at the last Appleseed, and my shots were all over the place. I'm going to give this a try for the October shoot!

I've always explained it using the "finger method" as noted in this video...each finger representing either the reticle focal point or target focal point inside the scope.  In fact, I have students do this...fingers far apart and move your head around...you get very different relative position of target/reticle.  Fingers together...you don't.
