Title: AAR - Temple, TX KD April 22-23, 2023
Post by: scuzzy on April 26, 2023, 02:35:35 PM
We began Saturday with 4 out of 9 noshows. The weather forecast for Sunday was miserable with wind, lots of rain all day, and a high in the 40s. I suppose that had a lot of people decide that was not going to be fun. Regardless we had fun and the shooters did very well. However Saturday was pretty nice with a high in the 70s and a light and variable wind.

The 5 people that did show up had never done a KD before and picked up things fast.

Of course Saturday was slow with everybody getting the DOPE on the equipment & ammo and learning trajectory, wind, etc. We still managed to get in 2 AQTs since I wanted everybody to get in some trigger time being as Sunday was forecast to be a bear. So we went a bit later than normal Saturday.

Woke up Sunday morning and me and Eric were standing there looking at the clouds. I said well at least it's not raining yet. And no less than 5 seconds later the rain came down. Figures. Only 3 people showed up Sunday however that didn't matter. We were going to learn and shoot.

Sunday it was windy all day long with 20 to 25 mph steady wind. Full value. Since it was raining pretty good and about 45 degrees I decided to review wind and especially the practical wind rules. In the garage where we could at least stay dry. And told a story or two to kill some time hoping the rain would quit. The rain then slowed down to a steady drizzle. Time to shoot. We then did Morgan's Shingle and Doug nailed it. Jim nailed it too - however it was about 2 inches high, perfectly centered using a wind hold over, and hit the post holding up the shingle. Close but no cigar.

Time for more AQTs. We got 2 out of 3 riflemen. And one really really close.

By noon everybody was pretty cold due to being damp, 40s temp, and steady high wind. So we had lunch. And then another person decided to call it a day. Did I mention it was cold? We were also pretty tired. Being as it was cold we all pretty much decided to walk up and down the range instead of hitching a ride. Just to keep our body temp up. By about 1:30 or so the last shooters said we've had enough. While I don't mind getting wet the wind and cold combined to do us in. I was glad to call it a day. Time to pick up brass, give patches, and do a quick benediction.

Kudos to those that showed up Sunday.
