Title: AAR Quarryville, PA, April 22-23, 2023
Post by: wickedworx on April 25, 2023, 12:05:49 PM
SLCFSA hosted the PATRIOTS DAY Appleseed Event in beautiful Quarryville PA. 15 students signed up and 14 showed up for the event. 11 Adults and 3 youth. Saturday started quite breezy and threatened severe thunderstorms later in the day but the Rifleman were persistent! The students heard one of the best telling of the first strike by EZ3 while in full period dress! We shot an initial redcoat target and moved right into steady hold factors for prone, sling use, steady hold factors for seated and standing, as well as NPOA, the 6 steps to firing the shot, and practiced zeroing, IMC, NPOA, Cadence, carding the sights, etc. As the skies grew darker, we listened to the 2nd and 3rd strikes of the match and decided to end the day early before the severe weather could cause any safety issues. We finished the day with the second redcoat target.
Sunday started out a littler cooler, but the weather was beautiful the remainder of the day. 12 students returned We started the day reviewing safety and everything that we had learned on Saturday. We practiced our transitions, dry firing, the 6 steps to firing a shot and a more in-depth review of NPOA. At exactly 12 noon we started Sunday with our first redcoat of the day. the students continued to improve and refine the techniques they had learned before shooting 4 AQT targets and a final Redcoat at the end of the day. I was very impressed with the progress the students made throughout the weekend.
We finished the weekend with a  a letter from John Adams ("Posterity"), and range restoration.
Questions were answered, and all left with a better sense of how much our forebears sacrificed for our freedom, and how to apply the fundamentals of marksmanship in shooting a rifle with precision out to 500 yards!

It was a very successful and memorable Patriot's Day event.  The students were very receptive to the instruction on our Heritage, actively participating during the presentations of the 3 Strikes of the Match.  Although not everyone achieved their Marksmanship goals, everyone showed improvement in their scores.

Thanks to Southern Lancaster County Farmer Sportsman's Association for donating the range for this event, and also for their strong support of Project Appleseed for many years.  Also, thanks to the Quarryville instructor crew for another job well done!

It took this young lady four weekend events to earn that patch... and then she goes 4/4 on AQTs with 216, 216, 212, 212. That's a genuine smile right there. To the crew - thank you. That's what joy looks like when persistence pays off.
