Well, another successful Patriots Day weekend event has wrapped up at the Orwell Gun Club here in Northeast Ohio. 9 Americans came out on a cold, blustery, rainy and even a brief bout of snow to work on their marksmanship skills and to hear about the founding of our great nation. Once again, a great big thank you to the members of the Orwell Gun Club for hosting an Appleseed event here and for providing a wonderful hot lunch for all. Without the support of gun clubs like this Appleseed events I am sure would be far and few between.
Saturday started off with waves of heavy rains. Luckily, we were nice and dry inside of the club house to learn about the 4 safety rules and how to make a rifle safe. The rain was lessening as we headed out to engage the 1st redcoat target of the weekend. The results showed that yes, we had some work ahead of us. That evening after the solemn Patriots Day Volley ceremony was performed the students engaged another redcoat target with much improvement. Both Todd and Glenn both showed that yes! Clearing the red coat can be done.
Sunday Am dawned cold but at least dry for the moment. We had a family group of four not able to return on Sunday due to prior arrangements. Almost all of the instructors were able to take the opportunity to get behind their rifles for trigger therapy. After sorting out some equipment issues another Redcoat was shot by all. This time two instructors Birdman and CDH showed their skills by clearing their redcoats. With some more instructions given to the group of students we rolled into the AQT's. We had two instructors requalify. Birdman with a 230 & 240, Rev 12 with a 226.
Todd was a returning rifleman that scored with a 230 & 236.
The Sunday afternoon redcoat was engaged by a weary group with amazing results. Rick, Joe & Todd all cleared it. 5 people now had 3 hits at the 400 hundred yard target. Saturday morning we had only 2.
Thank you everyone. An amazing weekend spent with fellow Americans.

A great learning experience! It has been almost ten years since I last attended an Appleseed(July 2013, Salem Ohio), and my skills were pretty rusty. I had occasionally printed out targets and worked on the six steps, but there's no substitute for good live teaching and coaching. And regular practice! My aim now is to work on foundations in the sitting/kneeling position, npoa therein, and cadence. I think these are my weakest areas. I don't want to make a habit of 209 scores! A cleaner rifle for the cold weather may help also.
Shout out to Birdman: my search of the AAR archives show that you instructed at both prior Appleseeds I attended(April 2010 Vienna, and Salem July 2013). I thought you looked familiar. Thank you for your faithful dedication to the cause!
I am also reading through the Primer on American Liberty. I've read a fair amount about the founding principles, yet this pamphlet is more detailed and concise than a lot of what I've read. Great to see all that knowledge all in one pamphlet! Lots of truth! I'm probably going to order some to give away.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the trail!
